I'm on vacation up here in Portland, OR and serving some recently smoked Salmon when one of the wives asked "what's the most favorite drink to consume when you are smoking fish or whatever"

Being a wine person, and depending on what time of day it is, a nice cold glass of Chardonnay will quench my thirst.  What about you?

Tequila on ice with a squeeze of fresh lime. 1 for every hour of the smoke...... And to fill the gaps ice water...... Ya know to keep hydrated....

If I'm Smokin' or Eatin' Q, I usually have a case of Cold Beer close by.

BUT, when the mood strikes or my Mrs' and/or Cheffy Daughter's join in it's....

SANGRIA!!!

In a One Gallon Pitcher combine...

1C Brandy or more...cheapo E&J, Christian Bros.

1C Triple Sec...orange liqueur.

2C Apple Juice or Cider

2C Orange Juice...Fresh or Simply Orange

1-2 Sliced Oranges

1-2 Diced Apples

Red Wine to FILL...Riunite Lambrusco is my fav.

*NOTE* You will use most of the 3 Liter Bottle!

Mix well and CHILL WELL...I stick it in the Freezer for an hour or more.

"CAUTION" This goes down smooth and will kick your BUTT!

DRINK RESPONSIBLY....Please!?!

Enjoy...JJ

As you're in Portland right now, go out and get yourself some Churchkey beer. It's a new pilsner made in Portland, but packaged in a retro steel, flat-top can that you open with a supplied churchkey opener. I remember my dad drinking beers like this.

Try some true Kentucky Bourbon like Buffalo Trace. Jack Daniels is a true Tennessee whiskey and not a bourbon. Buffalo Trace is a true Kentucky bourbon. By federal law Tennessee whiskey and Kentucky bourbon are a whole different  beast.

Concur...I live about an hour from the Jack Distillery and they make a significant point at the distinction.  I prefer Maker's Mark.

As I am having a few cocktails as I type.. If you read my SN I don't think I need to say anymore... Thumbs Up kudo's to my wife.. I told her I needed a lil bit of JD to do my maple bourbon ham with ( I should change the name to "Maple Whiskey Ham") LOL... She brought home the BIG BOY (1.75L) I almost squeezed her to death thanking her.. LOL... But anyways, for beer I do Yuengling Light...

Personally, I like to keep cool while doing the smoke, so I usually go for a coldbeer.  Yes, that's one word.  Coldbeer.  When asked what kind of beer I like, I usually just say...

Coldbeer.

JJ this sounds great !!!!

You can never go wrong with "coldbeer" (HTRedneck) especially in the hot summer months here in Virginia.  However when smoking in the fall a nice glass of Rye really hits the spot, and makes you feel warm inside.

Depends on what I'm smoking. If I'm smoking pork or beef I have beer. If I'm smoking chicken, I'll have beer. However, if it's winter time, I'll have beer.
