Halupkis (Bear’s Birthday Dinner)

My Birthday was way back on Jan 3, but I didn’t want anybody to think “Poor Old Bear” didn’t get anything for his Birthday.

Mrs Bear wasn't up to cooking yet, from her Hip Replacement the previous week---
So on Jan 3, Bear Jr & his lovely other half brought me a mess of Halupkis for my Birthday. (Mrs Bear loved them too).
I’ve loved these things since I was in High School, and I used to eat at my Buddy “Hunky Jack’s” house, and his mother made them the Best.

These things are Awesome!!!

We have Galumpkis in the slow cooker even as we speak. It's pretty much the same thing without the bother of making the cabbage rolls. Just throw it all in the pot. Good stuff.

Happy birthday Buddy!
I can remember you making these before, and I thought i would give them a try.
Never got around to doing it, but it's still on my ToDo list.
Cause they look delicious!

Happy Belated Birthday, Bear.

Another milestone on the road to Heaven!

I don't know what Halupkis is, but it looks delicious!

Thanks!
I had a suspicion it was a form of Cabbage Rolls (Which I love!), but I'm not real worldly with what some things are called.

I might even be one of the most Country City-boy's in Los Angles County.
But I do have a boat...

Yep. I think this is a good day for some ribs, and good music...

Kinda like Mrs Bear makes "Unstuffed Peppers".

Happy belated b,day Bear.

Thank You!

Bear

Try a dollop op sour cream on top. Takes them to another lever.

Having made Halupkis a few times they are a PIA. Boiling the cabbage, separating and trimming the leaves, stuffing and rolling is time consuming. But once you sit down with friends and family its all worth it.

You son and DIL did a nice job they look GREAT.

Thanks!!

Bear

Hey my Yankee Friend you are making my mouth water, I am due yours look fantastic.
Jr. & DIL take care of you :)

Looks good. Growing up in a Polish household, Stuffed Cabbage is a pretty common food and guaranteed to be served at any major event like picnics and family gatherings where a lot of people have to be fed. Hope you had a great day...JJ

We ate these a lot growing up in a German community we used the top leaves to layer the bottom to keep them from burning. A trick I learned a bout peeling/ boiling core the cabage place on a plate with a small amount of water and nuke for 5min or so just enough to soften just a bit peel what comes easy then ding it for another 5 repeat as necessary. Give it a try I was suprised how much easier it goes

Those look delicious John. Happy belated birthday.
Were they meat or just rice?? I much prefer them with meat.
We're pretty much like Braz. We're lazy and make Lazy Cabbage rolls--just layer everything in the slow cooker.
Gary

Thanks Gary!
