This is a wild ride on the way-back-time-machine. I recall having about 1/3 of these dishes. We still make some bean dishes, the hot salad, and hamburger steak & gravy, the sauerkraut and pasta, and a few more.

Some of the still photos in between featured items are sort of out of place, so keep an eye out for them. Enjoy.

One of the recipes mentioned in the video is Onion Pie. Here is my take on this classic:

Lots of high carb / high calorie dishes. And they were still skinny cause they burned a lot of calories doing the hard work of farming.

Great video !

Great video . Well worth watching . My Dad ate wilted lettuce all the time .
We ate a lot of chicken necks and drop dumplings or just dumplings and a beef gravy .
Love the salt pork part . I do sections of pork butt with TQ . Great for green beans and potatoes , but so many uses .

The movies ,
Braveheart and Fury , but loved the Terence Hill . They call me Trinity / My name is nobody .
Fun movies .
Thanks for posting .

I've enjoyed a few of these. Notably vinegar pie. Mom's recipe was even more hardscrabble as it was also called syrup pie because it was sweetened with syrup instead of sugar. While this may seem strange it was because my mom's family is from Louisiana and they grew sugar cane on their farm. They made their own syrup at home but didn't process sugar which had to be bought from a store. Sadly, I'm afraid I've lost her recipe.
