I decided it would be better to give you the results of my test in a separate post. It is quite clear what is going on with people who cannot see the images:

It is your ad blocker.

I don't use ad blockers but instead use a "hosts" file. It is a simple text file which resides in the following folder on a Windows computer:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

The hosts file can take any web site or any call to a web site and re-direct it to a non-existent local address. The result is to block access to that site. In most cases, you don't know that anything didn't happen (yes, that is a somewhat tortured way to say it, but it is true).

In this case, those images are NOT being displayed directly from Amazon, but instead are being displayed through their advertising server. The actual link for those images is as follows:

ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com

If you "un-block" that site from your ad blocker or, in my case, remove it from the Hosts file, the images display just fine.

So, there is absolutely nothing wrong with smokingmeatforums.com; the problem is entirely in the software some people are using to view the images.

P.S. This is the entry in my Hosts file that I removed in order to view these images:

0.0.0.0 ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com

The 0.0.0.0 is a non-existent local web address, and the Hosts file re-directs the call to the advertising server to that non-existent address which, since it doesn't exist, does absolutely nothing, and the image simply doesn't show up.

Thanks for the "atta boy." Also, apologizes for having jumped off the deep end into geekville. I actually have quite a few T-shirts various people have given me over the years that say nothing more than "geek."

The non-geek version is that lots of you have probably installed an "ad blocker" in order to keep ads from popping up all over the place. These ad blockers are usually installed as a browser "add-on". Most web operators hate these things because they make their money from advertising and, when your ad blocker blocks the link to the ad, the web site does not get paid.

So, if you use an ad blocker, you should consider turning it off for "nice" web sites, like this one.

Thanks John. Till I checked I didn't even know I was running an ad blocker. I guess it comes with McAfee. I whitelisted that Amazon ad site and now I get the picture links. Oddly, I could always see them using Edge but not using Firefox.

I mentioned this before, but I'll try to explain it again.

With the old forum, I used to take a Post with pics that I had on another forum, and just copy it there, and Paste it here.

But then the first time I tried that here, on this new platform, I could see the pictures, but nobody else could. So I had to leave the Text here, but delete my Pics. Then I installed the Pics by using the "Upload a File", and dragging the pics to where they belong.

This forum's upload technique is definitely unique. I'm not a fan of how it works, but I can make anything work, eventually.

I don't know any better, because it was like this when I got here.
So I figured out how to work with it. And compared to many other forum formats, this one really works well, IMHO!
But I can fully empathize with change, it's hard and frustrating, and many yearn for the familiar, for what you knew.

I had a frustration today elsewhere when suddenly my keyboard input stopped working. WTH?
Finally, after trying several things, I happened to notice the 'Battery Low' indicator on my wireless keyboard had finally stopped blinking over in the corner.
Yep, battery dead. I guess I got the last squeak out of that mouse.
I sheepishly went to the battery drawer in the kitchen, changed the batteries, and was back in business.
Operator error.... LOL at myself!

I have a ten-year-old Microsoft mouse. I have to change the batteries every few days. I use rechargeables so I don't fill up the landfill too fast.

I like this board's upload feature because it lets me mix images and text. I can describe something, insert a picture, then move on to something else with another picture. Another board I'm on allows attachments, but they all come at the end of the message.

Before photobucket closed the door, I could upload an image there and then use the [ img ] [ / img ] tagset to link to it on any board.

OK, if it is their 'Property' it's their problem. (It's meant to give them Legalese for trash pickers digging for cans.)
(I do not sort things I send to the treatment plant either.):po_O
