Before winter hit I hit my offsets with peanut oil both outside and inside or them and the covered them. We the other day I lifted covers from the offsets and noticed the two units were no longer oily but the metal had obsorbed the oil. So much that they were dry. The charcoal grill I only coated the inside. Well pull that cover off recently and found a little rusting action happening. So covering is simply not enough. I can only image how many days of frosting and melting occurred.

I pulled the cover off mine a couple of weeks ago to take advantage of warmer temps and the firebox was rusty. No worries, it held fire just fine. I'll pretty it up in the spring...

I had to buy a new cover for my smoker. It was frozen to the patio and when I pulled it off, the bottom half was still attached.

I know not everybody has space in theirs but I kept mine in the garage and wheeled it out when I wanted to use it. I do the same but keep it in the shed now that it's built along with my wood and other grilling/smoking supplies

Down here in FL, it's the heat & humidity.

Not to mention the torrential downpours we get in the summer.

And if you live near the coast you have the salt air to contend with.
