Rookie attempt at Tri Tip

Please help me out with what will be my 1st attempt at smoking a Tri Tip.  I like my beef medium so I was thinking smoking it to about 130-135 and then wrapping and resting it for about 30 minutes.  Anyone have any suggestions?

That is a great plan. Maybe rest an hour for med. in a warm oven. It really is the best med. rare though.

Sounds good, I really like TT ! The only thing I'd add is to watch when slicing as the grain runs in a few different directions !

I made sure that I scored it so I would know which way to slice it.  This will be the first one I have ever eaten as well as cooked.  I am excited!!

You could reverse sear it smoke to 120* grill over high heat about 1&1/2 -2 min side or to your preferred IT rest then eat!:drool

Here is the finished product. It was amazingly tender and juicy! I think I just found my new go to quick dinner.

I will try the reverse sear the next time.  I have a hard time getting a good bark, or any bark at all in my MES.  Mu understanding is because it does not get hot enough.  The reverse sear should take care of that don't you think?

You can reverse sear with your oven broiler or a good hot grill if you have a gasser. I love that little outer char. But, you just can't get bark on a tri tip as it just isn't in the smoke for long enough.

Looks great & bet it was tasty, TT is one of my favorite cuts ! We eat it plain or do Philly Cheesesteaks with them !
