I had intentions of using this Auber PID Controller with my MES, but after reading the various threads regarding its set up, I have discovered that my electrical skills leave much to be desired and I can live without it. Therefor, if anyone would like to have this controller please let me know. If you are willing to pay for the postage, you may have it for the cost of the postage. I am expecting numerous responses, so I will wait until next Saturday (9/19/26) @ 9:00 EST and pick a name from my hat.

Thanks,
John

That's a nice gesture for sure . I don't remember seeing that you had bought one , plenty of help here .
It's intimidating for sure , but once done you laugh at yourself at how simple the rewire is , or just put a pigtail right to the element and you're done .

Thanks for the encouragement but I really don't use my MES that often. . .I'm more inclined to use my UDS, Weber Kettles, and Smokey Jo. . .If my MES was a small engine I wouldn't have a problem, but electronics have always puzzled me because I really had no interest in it.

I'm with chopsaw. Seriously, someone here will help you get it right. I'd give it another shot at install and just start a thread with pics so someone can answer any questions you have along the way. No harm no foul.

Personally, as an owner of a MES (relatively new), I haven't had issues with temps. I really have no desire to get involved with redoing the controls (and I have built such controls for a living for about 35 years). I have everything needed already and still not interested. What I would recommend is the external smoke attachment so you can do low temp stuff. Fact is, it's great for high temp stuff too. IMHO, the newer MES units are worthless without it. I borrowed a 10 year old one before buying mine and that was awesome straight out of the box. Mine... not so much. It's hard to believe they could screw em up that much...

It's well beyond my skills too or I'd throw in for my Smokin Tex. I need the more plug and play variety

There's nothing above your skill level. There's just inexperience and apprehension. Here's how it works. These folks who have the confidence to tackle such a job... The first time they ever did it, they'd never done it before... It doesn't take any divine grace... Head to Harbor Freight and grab the tools you need and get'er done!

I really had no interest in it.
I get that 100 % . I just thought maybe you reached out and didn't get any responce .
I'm to a point that I don't use mine much anymore either .

Never did get in line with someone saying " it's easy " , because everyone is different .
I thought the older Smokin Tex were analog , and the new ones were PID ?
If you have the analog one , all you need to do is set the smoker to the max temp , then plug it into the Auber . Auber to power and it controls the smoker .
I actually put a 1500 watt element in an old kettle . I can use the Auber to control it .
Works pretty good .

I appreciate the inspiration some of you are trying to give me but I really do not want to frustrate myself with dealing with this thing. I would rather give it to someone who can appreciate the satisfaction of installing it in their smoker.
