I have been trying to use rubs with less salt lately - finding that sugar is usually substituted.  The rubs I have with sugar end up delicious mind you, but just wondering what everyone's favorite rub is.   I have never tried Jeffs rub and will be putting in an order to try it out (and give some support)  Anyone have any great rubs with less salt that they like?

I picked this up somewhere.  I put it on a brined chicken which had enough salt. Not bad.

1 tablespoon dried crushed parsley
2 tablespoons dried crushed sage
1 tablespoon dried crushed rosemary
1 tablespoon dried crushed thyme
1 tablespoon dried crushed oregano
1 tablespoon dried crushed basil
1 tablespoon dried crushed bay leaf
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon sugar

This is a creole knockoff where salt is controlled seperate:

2 tablespoons onion powder

2 tablespoons garlic powder

2 tablespoons dried oregano leaves

2 tablespoons dried sweet basil

1 tablespoon dried thyme leaves

1 tablespoon black pepper

1 tablespoon white pepper

1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

1 tablespoon celery seed

5 tablespoons sweet paprika

This is Kruger's rib rub.  He says salt is added seperate.

1/4 c sugar
1/4 c ground Ancho chili powder
1/4 c paprika
1 Tbl ground cumin
1 Tbl onion powder
1 Tbl dried thyme
1 tsp dried marjoram
1 tsp cayenne
2 Tbl green peppercorns, crushed
1 Tbl ground white pepper
1 tsp celery seed
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger

This is one from a while ago here.  Really like it with ribs and smoked in cherry.

I only use 1/2 the salt (although I do that for most recipes other than sausage and even that I cut back some).

Curious Aardvark's famous rib rub.

4 teaspoons sea salt
2 tsp darkbrown sugar
1 level tsp garlic powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp whole peppercorns
3 tsp dried lemon peel
2 tsp dried mixed peppers (NOT chillis)
1 tsp dried oinion
2 tsp white sugar
1 tsp coriander

Aw now ya got me reading recipes again.

I copied this, but have not tried it yet.
