I live in Alabama! It's too dang cold. I was washing the glass in the door of the MES 40 and the water was freezing before I could wipe it off. I don't think I would get out of the house if it was this cold all the time. Luckily it is getting up to a balmy 60 today (hopefully) so maybe it will be warm enough to get the pastrami smoked.

I'm not hatin' with the yankee comment...as long as you visit and don't stay.

Again I'm just kidding. Anybody who smokes meat is a friend of mine.

Cause we are used to it. Its the same reason why you Southern boys are wearing winter jackets when the temps hit 50 degrees and can't drive in the snow and us Yankees are still working on our tans and driving with the convertable top down.

Yep, but here in Northern Michigan we don't have hurricane's, tornado's or earthquake's just weather below zreo for 4 months of of the year so pick your battle I guess. My choice is to stay right here. LOL :)

Its going to be beautiful here this weekend (up in the 30's) it is going to be way better then my last smoke when it was -25 out. You get use to the cold and deal with it. Once its -30 out and the temp goes above zero it pretty much feels like a heat wave.

gotta have fresh bbq to eat.

actually a heat wave this weekend compared to my last 2 below zero smokes. Its gonna be in the mid 30's tomorrow when I am smoking some ribs for the Ravens game.

yep, you just can't make these folks below the mason dixon line understand how much better 30 degrees feels than 5 or less does. If it got to 60 here today we would have big bad flooding troubles, my overall snow cover has went down but I still average at least 14 inches deep across my yard.

Cold!? What cold? Should be able to smoke no matter the temp. It's the wind and sleet that gets you. Heck, the wife and I were outside in the hot tub when it was 18*. Just close your eyes and it could be the Caribbean!

Hey guys new to the site. Been smoking for about a year. As a Canuck I had to comment on a cold weather thread :D

Like Marty Catka said there is no temp to cold to smoke (well -30F if using propane). Two weeks ago I smoked a 8lbs moose roast for about 7 hours on my Weber Genesis (gas). Outside temp was -13F (-25C). Meat came out great.

Only bad thing about smoking at these temps...can't really enjoy smoke show, sitting in the lawn chair with a beer.

Absolutely joking. Our weather problems are on teh opposite end of the spectrum. This time of year is what it's all about in AZ

I can run my Tank smoker in the dead of summer without having to building a fire

I'm not a fan of the cold either - get's in the way of other retirement outdoor activities besides smoking, like golf. Fortunately, North Texas is nothing like ND or MI but we do have some cold spells.

Real men smoke in the cold. Why, I remember when I was a kid and we had to walk to school and back. It was 15 degrees, and the wind was whippin' 40mph. Three feet of snow, uphill in both directions. And that was during the summer....

Raise your hand if you've ever dug a path through the snow (1 foot or higher) to get to your BBQ or grill, and when you removed the cover it held its shape!

Add a point if you did that in shorts and flip flops.
