Happy Birthday Bear! Had a hankering for some Halupkis a couple weeks ago and made a batch. Like your “Hunky Jack” story, I first had them at a friends grandmother’s house in Roscoe, Pa. Mine will never be as good as hers, but it’s fun to try.

Like said I miss a lot anymore. Sorry for late reply but happy belated birthday wish.
I can't comment on your dinner I don't do stuffed cabbage or stuffed peppers. But I'm sure you enjoyed them and it's great the kids look out for you.

Thank You Bum!!
Appreciate that!

Happy Belated! Looks awesome. We're big cabbage people here but 90% of the time it's chopped and sauteed with egg noodles. Thanks for inspiring me to google stuffed cabbage recipes! Found a recipe that looks good to try. I think I like the polish version (golabki) which is sweet almost like swedish meatballs.

Why??

Bear

I agree Bear. . . .Why?

Growing up in the small steel town of Homestead PA we had a large population of Polish and Hungarian families. Wonderful hard working, kind, and friendly people. Many of my childhood friends were from those families. I had some of the greatest "hand grenades" when I was invited to dinners at their homes. Even my emigrant Greek Mother learned how to make them from our neighbors. I miss those carefree days and those wonderful dinners. Unfortunately I never learned how to make them from my mom. Even today I wish I had an authentic recipe to try!

Oh, and happy birthday Bear!

I miss you mom,

John

Does anyone have an authentic Hungarian or Polish recipe they would be willing to share?

I have been dreaming of Halupkis since I read this Post.

Thanks,

John

You might want to post that question on a New Post, so more people will see it.
I'm sure somebody will have one & share it.

I know GaryS makes Halupkis, but I don't know if his are from authentic Hungarian or Polish recipes.

Thanks Bear,

I sent a PM to Chef JimmyJ hoping he could share one with me but haven't heard from him yet. I like your idea however . I will try to post my request again but am not quite sure on which Forum.

Great Idea---I should have thought about Jimmy!!! I'm sure he has one or two.
On this one I used the "Blowing Smoke Around the Smoker" forum.
