I started watching a YouTube channel several months ago in which a guy and his son sample bourbon and other whiskies and offer insights and tasting notes.
Curt and Trenton of SLB Drinks. I like those guys, too. Curt says he's more of a scotch drinker, so when he recommended a bourbon, I listened. He was definitely right about the Wild Turkey 101.

Angels Envy
Buffalo Trace
Blantons
Four Roses
Just about all from Boundary Oak
Van Winkel (when I can afford it again)

Since this thread started the better bourbons have rocketed up in price too. Eagle Rare at $40 or Bookers at $50 used to be an occasional treat. Now at $100 and $200 I just can't justify the price. Why can't those darn rich people go back to drinking scotch and drive up ITS price instead.

Oh, they are. I used to treat myself with Lagavulin 16 at $65. My wife paid $73 just over a year ago. It's now $100. I love it, but I ain't paying that price. The scotches are also not aging their whiskies as long. Young is yuck.

And then you've got the Internet "influencers" who taste a $20-$40 bourbon and say things like "Heck, I'd pay three times as much for this bourbon!" If I hear those words come out of any YouTuber's mouth, they get a big thumbs down from me.

B1, Scotch prices have gone up, my favorite is Aberlour 16. It has gone from $75 to $130. It's a good thing I have a few bottles stashed away or I'd be done drinking that scotch! :(

Not a big whiskey/bourbon drinker anymore....... but I always keep a bottle of
Jameson Irish whiskey in the freezer. Its a favorite now.

Don't drink bourbon a lot anymore, but if I do it's been Woodford Reserve over a few ice cubes for the last few years as it's not relatively expensive when on sale at the CGX or NEX, but I've been trying to find some of this mystical product Buffalo Trace. I hear people singing its praises but I've yet to cross paths with a bottle. The Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Exchanges have it on an irregular basis I'm told. They work outside of the state laws of Virginia's ABC who consider it a "Limited Availability Product" and make it even more of a PITA to obtain. Read HERE. I bought a bottle of Four Roses small batch on my last attempt to find the Buffalo, so that's gonna hafta do. I'm not working that hard to find a bottle of liquor.

If I could get away with it I would send you a bottle of Buffalo Trace, we have it all over.

Me either, but I keep a couple of bottles here for special occasions. For those that come empty handed, it's Larceny. For those bearing gifts and special friends, it's Angel's Envy, Bulleit, or Blade and Bow. No one gets my Rare Breed, but that's a special story about a very special friend and January 23...

I generally drink whisky/whiskey/bourbon neat. And I know that blending good w/w/b in a glass is generally considered heresy, BUT I do it with cheaper bottles juuuust to see what I get. Today I mixed a little of a less sweet smoky scotch into the WT 101 in my glass. I LIKED it!

  • Angels Envy is awesome and costs right at $50 - one of my faves
  • Very Old Barton 100 Proof is actually very good and only about $15 per bottle. Hard to find sometimes. DO NOT BUY THE 80 Proof...not very good.
  • 1792 Small Batch, Bulleit and Four Roses are all very good, readily available, and maybe about $35/bottle
  • Jim Beam is great with soda
I did not buy all of these bottles in the background.
I was very lucky and won a killer raffle and got some awesome bourbons.
When I won, I got booed by the losers! -lol- I was stoked!

I‘m kinda just the opposite, Joe. I’ve never developed much of a taste for Scotch or Irish whiskeys…but I always have bourbon in the cabinet.

Its worth a shot if you want me to try.
In KY bourbon trail area, not that far from VA.
I've sent and received several bottles of liquor with forum members. All you have to let them know at usps is you have a liquid. No questions asked. Have also received it through Fed ex
