I usually use eye of round when making jerky which can run pretty high in price but low fat. What are some cheaper choice that I could go with to smoke some jerky?

You can use most any very lean beef for jerky. If it is marbled (ribeye) it will not be good for jerky.  I have found that a steak rather than a roast works well. Especially if you have a meat slicer. You get more uniform slices which helps in marinating and smoking.

I can find London broil on sale around here for $2.99/lb, it is usually $5.99/lb. Very lean and works good.
