Military movies? That covers several millennia.

Twelve O'clock High

Saving Private Ryan (I saw it solo in a near-empty theater. I walked out a changed man)

Patton (I saw General Omar Bradley in the mid-70's when he visited the Army ROTC at Vandy. He was wheeled around campus in a wheelchair. That moment I saw him is burned in my memory like it happened yesterday).

Honorable Mentions:
Schindler's List
Fail-Safe
Dr. Strangelove

I love many military-themed movies.

Favorite foreign military films: Black Book, Das Boot, and Downfall.

Favorite Navy themed: Master and Commander, Midway, and Run Silent Run Deep.

Favorite POW: King Rat, The Bridge on the River Kwai, and Empire of the Sun.

Favorite Historical Military Fiction: Kingdom of Heaven, The Eagle, and The Last of the Mohicans.

Favorite Military Comedies: Mrs Henderson Presents, Down Periscope, and Charlie Wilson's War (the Tom Hanks version).

Favorite Anti-Nuke: Dr. Strangelove, Fail-Safe, and By Dawn's Early Light.

I could put so many honorable mentions in the above lists.

Russell Means was just fantastic in The Last of the Mohicans. Saw it in a theater and when he took out Magua (Wes Studi) near the end of the movie I cheered enthusiastically. Great movie!

1. A Bridge Too far
2. Midway (original)
3. Tora Tora Tora

Kellys Heros
Flying Tigers
Midway
Seargent York
My favorite fake war movie is Battleship

The Final Countdown
I remember going to see that at the local drive-in. (Shows how long ago that was. It's long gone now.) I was intrigued because it "starred" Kirk Douglas. Come to find out, he has about 2-3 minutes of screen time, and the rest was taken up with B & C actors. Something they do quite a bit today with straight to video movies.
