Hi guys i have to buy a cover for my MES 30 + slow smoker attachment ,should i buy a cover for the Mes 40?
Walmart has 30" diameter all black grill covers that come down to the chip loader hole < $10. Thicker than a garbage bag and Weber makes a 28" diameter or so that fit the Mes 40". I like the bottom 1/3 open to breathe and my smoker doesn't get rain soaked.
Hmmm ... You bought it eight years ago? I wonder if they used to make a better quality cover back then? That MES cover is the same one I've been using for 8 years, and is only faded.
No holes or tears anywhere.
I would never put it out in the rain, but it's been holding up good to the UV rays & putting it on & off hundreds of times.

In that link I provided above, which goes to the post where I reviewed the MES cover, if you read the comments I got from other people in that thread, many of them described the same thing: it fell apart in less than one year.
It wasn't just my own, isolated experience.
Here is a link to the 3,214 reviews on Amazon of the Masterbuilt MES cover:
Amazon MES Cover Reviews
What I find fascinating is the contradiction between the high number of stars given in the review compared to what is actually said in the "first page" reviews, i.e., the ones which have gotten the most votes (including my review, which you'll see on the first page of those 3,000+ reviews ;)).
All of those "first-page" reviews mention the cheap material, and the poor construction quality (the stitching).
The review I like the best is the very first one which, rather amusingly, points out that the instructions which come with the cover include this warning:
THIS PRODUCT IS INTENDED FOR INDOOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
From what Bear is saying, that is almost how he has used it, because he keep the smoker indoors when the weather is getting bad (I do the same thing, even with my better cover because the MES electronics are very poorly protected from the elements).
So, if used as recommended in the instructions, it appears the cover does indeed last a long time.
This reminds me of my thirty-year-old car: I never drive it, and it doesn't give me a lick of trouble.
Sorry about not understanding your post. You said "under roof" and it turns out that is a term used in real estate and elsewhere to mean indoors, as you can see in this link:I don't know where you got that---Neither my Smoker, my electronics, nor my cover has ever been indoors since I got them.
My front porch has a roof over it, but that's not indoors. It still gets wet during rain or snow if the wind is blowing in the right direction, especially one of our many NorEasters. I even keep it tied down because of all the wind it gets here on the mountain.
Sorry if I missed it, but what product did you get?The one I bought yesterday is the same material as the other BBQ covers on the shelf.
And very much the same material as the cover that came with my Brinkman Smoke N Grill charcoal burner. Which is ancient, and has been re-purposed to a primary cover for my telescope mount, which lives under a 32 gallon plastic trash can. (And has for going on 3 years so far.) They are wide open on the bottom for breathing and keeping things dry.
Bulleted points:
Anyway, it's good stuff, in my experiences. And often out-lasts the things they cover. It protected my MES 30 from .32" of rain last night.
- Heavy duty premium cover
- 18 mil thickness polyester fabric with sun fade protective liner
- 2 Year warranty
So far, so good... And two more storms coming.
I like rain, it's the only time my truck gets washed.:)
