My dad has a 20 yo Traeger that quit working. He is 85 and doesn't own a cell phone. Finding gifts for him is hard so thought to buy him a new smoker for FD coming up. Can the RecTeq Patio Legend 600 be ran without the app? Any other pellet smoker recs for around the same price range? Planning on getting the cover and shelf options too. It will be kept outside but under a roof out if the elements. Not interested in charcoal. Does anyone know if they run a FD sale?

Your best bet is call recteq. I understand the cellphone thing. I do not use one either and glad for it.

Not a Rec tec , but the brand I have can be run from the smoker .
First question might be does he have wi fi ? Would need that to keep the software up to date .

I have a RecTeq Backyard Beast. It can be run w/o an app on your phone.
As far as I can tell, the app is only used for guided cooks (and to let RecTeq know exactly what you're up to.) It's handy, but not necessary.

I have a RT-700 and it can be run without the app. All the controls are on the main panel. As said before it is nice to have but not necessary .

Yup, I have an RT 700 as well. It can totally be run from the units control board.

Great smokers, super reliable, mine has never had an issue in over a decade of use.

Thanks for the info. Going to go ahead and buy it.
New Pellet grill:
Take a Serious Look at Grilla Grills.
I have the Chimp 1.0.
Got the cover for it.
It’s was covered with it over the winter.
Exposed to the elements.
Very happy with it.
I can do 2 BBQ Ribs and a 3 rd on the top rack.
Can do 4 pork chops or 2 large porterhouse steak.
It’s very easy to operate using it manually no phone.
WIFI or not .
Grilla offers a little bit more features than
Rec Tec, not to mention they are standard, no extra cost!
I can list the advantages if interested?
Hope this helps you!
Just checked the Grilla site, Chimp 2.0 is on sale!
There is a bundle with cover, front shelf !
$675, over $200 0ff !
Shipped Free and no sales tax !

Yes, it can be run from the unit, no connectivity is needed. The Porch Pro 400 (Plenty big for one person) is on sale at the moment, and they do run sales on the others, but they rotate, I would suspect FD sales for sure though

Other good options would be:
The Weber Smoque 594
Green Mountain Grill Ledge Prime 2.0

Budget wise even a pit boss 850 would run nicely

Good luck and I wouldn't over think your choice, just get the one that you can get easily as they will work!
