So, while sitting in a conference call today I got to wondering about which items were the most popular to smoke.
After a slight perusal of the SMF home page, I saw my answers, and being the geek I am, I decided to graph them out and see just where everything fell into place.
Until I went out and did this “study”, I had never really looked at how many threads each topic listed had gotten or which areas were the most popular to post in.
Now, I know this will be skewed somewhat since some threads are in the General Discussion area and what not, but for the price you are paying for this data, it’ll work for now!
The following data was collected earlier today, and I’m sure the numbers have changed a bit within the last hour or so…
Smoking Meat and Other Things
Pork, it’s what’s for supper it looks like, with a solid 7000 threads greater than beef which I was kind of shocked about. I thought beef was king when it came to smoking!
Fowl is really lagging! 11,000 threads behind pork! I’m guessing it only really gets popular around Thanksgiving (US Holiday)… Sausage is one area that I really thought would be higher on the scale since we see quite a few threads weekly, or maybe I'm just biased since that's my favorite thing to make/smoke.
Hmm, cheese is listed here too with 580 threads… Should someone consider moving all of the cheese posts to the cold smoking section?
I don’t know of anyone that’s been successful in hot smoking cheese, although a few have posted pics of their attempt!
Cold Smoking
Bacon seems to be the winner here with cheese running a close second!
Another thing I noticed was that the "stickies" sections were a bit skinny... There have been some pretty good write ups by folks over the last year or so and I don't see where any new ones have been added...
So, what does all of this mean? Nothing much, but my conference call is now over and I succeeded in not being bored for the entire hour!
