As a lot of you know I had a MES 40 for a couple of years, then sold it to a friend & bought a WSM. My friend is still using it & is very happy with it. I also bought a Smoke Vault a few months ago because I was doing a lot of cold smoking & needed something with a lot of room. I later realized that the Vault is excellent for any kind of poultry due to the ease that it will hold higher temps. No my latest thing is making sausage. I have been using the Vault & it is OK, but requires a lot of babysitting at the lower temps. So I new the answer was to just get the new MES at Sam's. I have to say I am very impressed with the 1200 watt element. It really is a huge improvement over the 800 watt one that I had. It heats up very quickly & the recovery time is amazing for an electric smoker. I set it at 275 for testing purposes last night with a Maverick probe inside to see how accurate the controller & factory probe was. I was pleasantly surprised. With the controller set at 275, the factory probe read 273, & the Mav read 271. The thing that really surprised me was the chamber temp did not have huge swings like my old one did. The Maverick stayed between 268 & 272 for the whole time I had it on ( about 2 hours ). It has the small chip holder, but since the only thing I will use it for is sausage. I won't ever put any chips in it anyway. My AMNPS & AMNS will provide all the smoke I need. Now the really cool thing is the remote. When I have to bump the temp up 10 degrees, I can do it sitting on the couch watching TV. Lets see, pepperoni, kielbasa, andoulli, hmmm what will be first.

Congrats Al---I knew we'd get you back on the team!!!

Yup, you no longer have to wait until half-time to adjust your smoker temp!!!

You really lucked out with the accuracy!

You might want to rethink your getting the FREE upgrade to your chip burner. Even if you never use it, your New Toy should be able to do it's best. If you ever sell it, it would be good to have it work properly. Years from now they won't be giving those retros away.

Once in awhile, if I run out of dust, and only want another half hour of smoke, instead of cleaning my Amazing out & reloading it, I'll drop a few chips in the old chip burner to complete my mission. If I had the original chip burner, I'd have to turn it up to 240˚ to get even a hint of smoke.

Full Circle My Friend....Full Circle!

I own (3) of the dang things, and they're a great addition to anyone smoking arsenal.

That said, I've got a Pellet Grill/Smoker on order

You're gonna dig the AMNPS in your MES!!!

What's first on your "Sausage List"?

Congrats!

First Congrats Al .i will agree with Bear if it is for free it does not hurt to have it.

Bear & Ahron, I emailed MB, but haven't heard back from them yet.

I guess I will have to call them.

Update; I called them & the retro kit is on backorder.

When they get them in they will send me one.

Just "told" my wife I am buying an MES 40! Figured the couple nights on the couch would be worth it once I get to smokin'! I am intruiged by the "fatty" as I have never heard of it before joining this site. I can't decide what I want to smoke first. Maybe I can smooth it over with her if I offer to smoke some meatloaf for her family!

Smart Move!!!

The sooner you Spring it, the sooner you can start smoothing things over!!!

A meatloaf & a Fatty can go a long way in scoring Inlaw points !!!!

43rd Wedding anniversary coming up in Dec---I should know!
