This is a recipe a friend of mine made back in 2013 for a dinner with some friends that was really amazing. He gave me the recipe.

I don't have the 16" round azalea terra cota or planter. I'm just using my nee Granitestone Roasting Pan. So I don't know how that will affect the recipe.

But everything else has been followed exactly. It went in the oven about 8 minutes ago. It will roast until 118° F It. Then I'll follow the rest of the recipe.

9.66 lb. 4 bone in standing rib roast from Sam's Meats in Aurora.

This recipe reads really well to me, and I'd lay money the outcome is fantastic.
Looking forward to the Money Shots!

But, this isn't what I think of as Pot Roast.
This to me is a Roast, Rib Roast, Prime Rib or so on.
When I think of Pot Roast, I'm thinking slowly Braised in a richly seasoned, savory liquid/gravy, with potatoes or parsnips, carrots, onions and celery, maybe some mushrooms.

The roast just reached 118° F IT. I just bumped the oven to 500° F, covered the roast with foil. We are in the home stretch now. It should be done in the next 15-20 mins.

I'm going to have steamed broccoli with it tonight and some dinner rolls.

Dinner is served. I for some reason don't recall this recipe being a prime rib...but then again it's been about 12-13 years since my friend made it. So my memory might not be as good as it once way.

The taste rings true though. Either way, it's delicious!

About 5 hrs and 40 mins in the oven from start to finish.
