Just joined, want to learn more about smoking. Different types or models, what would be the best for me. Gas, electric or pellet.

Welcome to the forum. As to what to get, all I can tell you is to do your research on each type, pros and cons and go with your gut. When I was younger I liked my off set smoker burning wood/charcoal. In my 60's, electric is a lot less work.

The best smoker for you is the one you can start smoking with. Having owned, electric, propane and wood fired smokers of different shapes, I suggest get an inexpensive one that you think you'll like after doing some research. Start with the hobby and it'll lead you to where you need to be supply-wise. Getting in the game is the big hurdle. you won't regret it once your there. Welcome fellow cheesehead.

Tooln, welcome aboard. As to the type of smoker, that depends on how much effort you want to put into it. Electric is pretty much set-it and forget it. WSM require a little more tending to. Less expensive offset's often require constant babysitting. Also your location, budget, physical abilities, what you want to smoke, and heat source will play a role in your choice of smokers. Ask questions and read up on the numerous smokers used by the members.

Welcome to SMF!
Start out with something easy to operate, then like most of us you will buy a second smoker that has other features your first one didn't. I have used them all, except for a pellet smoker, and I can tell you that a wood fired smoker will give you the best flavor, the next best flavor will come from charcoal/wood combo like a WSM. But I will say the guys with the pellet smokers swear by them, & from what I've seen they are putting out some fantastic Q. The biggest complaint with the pellet guys is lack of smoke flavor, but this can be remedied by adding an Amazen tube to your smoker to get more smoke.

Good luck & glad to have you aboard!

Well I ended up getting a GMG Davey Crockett. Used it twice so far to make burgers. Never had smoked burgers before, got to say they were very good. Next up is a couple of thick cut 2.5" sirloins. Got to find a good recipe. Any suggestions?
