My Grampa would have the pig in the back of a pickup, with one hind foot tied with twine (they won't move of the hind leg is tied. Elephants are like this too.... but I don't think Grampa butchered one of them)
Then he'd pierce the neck/heart with a long thin blade, and let them bleed out.
He said they felt very little and would bleed out very well.
After Grampa passed, the .22 was always used. No one could do it the old way, thinking it was not humane.
