Sorry, long read!
With football season fast approaching, I wanted to share some pics of our "Beer n Brats" fundraiser we had on Friday! We have a group called the Sideliners that have different raffles and events to raise funds for the football program, youth through varsity. This is out 4th or 5th beer n brats, we also have had multiple hog roast and golf outings which I have always been the lucky guy to get to cook for all of them!
So anyhow, I'll give You a fairly condensed run down of the event. I loaded my truck up the night before, in the morning I headed to town to get the smokers and cook section set up on the back porch of the venue we were using, maje a handful of stops in yiwn for supplies and whatnot, then pick up the 800 brats and 60lbs of bulk sausage from the processor.
I finished my running around and setting up and headed to get the porkage! Once there I waited 10 -15 minutes to talk someone and when I asked about the brats he just looked at me and said they weren't ready. I was like are you explicit kidding me? Then he started back pedaling and was like well when we're you going to start making them. I said 2. He said ok stop by then......insert more explicitly from me at this point.
So I come back around 130. Same thing, wait 15 min to be helped, then finally told where to go pick them up. Loaded up, head to venue, take 2 cases to the back and the rest I overloaded one of their carts to wheel them into the cooler. There was a 5" step up into the walk in So I'm trying to lift the front of the cart up in and completely rip off the handle ....whoops. Finally get it man handled up in and were ready to roll!
Started loading my smoker first and then my pellet grill. At that time another alpha dad shows up with his beast of a grill/smoker, unhookes it, fires it up and it was on! I wasn't happy about the delay but mist things worked out OK. The brats they made were hit or miss, some being nice and juicy and others dry. Haste makes waste and this really proved it! I hope most people got the juicy ones and didn't think it was us guys out back over cooking them! We were constantly probing to check temps and keeping them moving!
All n all it was fun and most importantly we raised $9400 for the kids!
Oh, I almost forgot. I made some "snacks" throughout the afternoon and evening .....you know....pittmaster privilege!
