Yesterday's smoked leg quarters worked out great!

But I cut the knuckle of my left thumb while splitting maple. There's blood on the garage floor, blood on the bathroom floor, blood on this desk. I went to bed and woke up with blood all over my chest and blanket. I changed the gauze and wrapped it tight; the pain woke me up at 4:00 this morning and I had to resort to eating one of my late mother's old pain pills. They still have some kick, I was leaning on walls as I changed my bandage for the second time. But I ran out of the stretchy tape, so I'm typing (poorly) with my thumb wrapped in gauze and scotch tape.

Never before in my life have I cut myself so badly that I was still dripping blood 12 hours later.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. If there is any consolation ...got myself 3 deeps cuts this season. One still not healed yet. Every single one was textbook "don't". One happened halfway thru a big sausage job. Very frustrating second half to say the least.

Wish you a fast healing. And take it easy.

Sorry about your thumb, but if it is still bleeding you may want to consider seeing a doctor.

Hope it gets better.

Guess it could have been worse, get well heal good and get back to cooking.

gotta agree with Link,

get yourself to one of those minor ER places and they will bandage it up so it will stop, or get you more attention if needed

I use polysporin on deep cuts (might be marketed under a different name in the US). I found that beside preventing infections it helps heal faster. Or maybe is just the placebo effect. I wish they sold placebo in drug stores. It seems to cure a lot of ailments.

It's funny, I utterly hate the thought of me getting any body piercings, but between groundskeeping and working with stained glass, I've cut and stuck myself many hundreds of times. Generally speaking, "You provide the force to cut yourself" but that's not always the case.

Tip: If you're being harassed by a horsefly, do not swing at it with a saw. My left hand still has a mark from that. Right next to another scar that probably came from a bow saw. I think I'll will that hand to a medical college. Meanwhile I'll wear leather gloves more often, because those have saved me many times.
