Yep all was good! I will do one of the roasts around the end of the month. We aren't doing a traditional Thanksgiving this year. It's going to be spaghetti and meatballs!  That weekend I will cook roast number one in the DO.

Not on sale these are normally $7.99. The Angus prime is $10.99. In the normal stores I rarely see them on sale for less than $6.99, regular $9.99-$12.99. Cash and Carry is my go to place for meat, when I have the freezer space.

Amen to that!  Cash and Carry is my new favorite too! And they just put a new one up in Springfield. Having a full freezer is a first class problem to have Chase!

I buy 1/2 a cow every year from a friend that raises them. In fact I just picked it up from processing just a couple weeks ago, Between that and fresh Deer meat this year my freezer is full too (Not to mention the fresh caught Salmon, Lingcod and Rockfish!)  For what I pay in the long run for home-grown beef, I am seriously considering buying 100% of my beef and pork from Cash and Carry from now on. The only thing stopping me, is buying local and from a known source I know exactly what I am getting and where it comes from. I'm torn with those prices.

$3.85 /lb hanging weight @ 238#= $916.30 Plus kill & haul, Cut and wrap for $260= $1176.30

With an average of 18% shrinkage/weight loss after aging you end up with 213 lbs of bone, burger and stew meat steaks and roast. That comes out to $5.52 per lb. for everything. Theres only so much of the premium cuts and end up with a lot of hamburger at the end of the year.

All of my friends that used to raise cattle (for friends and family) have quit for that exact reason. All of the guys I know that actually ranch for a living don't eat what they raise.

We used to buy a half every year. No more!

Where do you fish out of? My family has a charter business in Depoe Bay. I worked in the industry for a good portion of my life and used to have a bota too.

I fish Depoe Bay from time to time, but mostly out of Charleston since it tends to be a bit more protected. I launch out of Sunset Bay not the harbor so there is no bar to cross.

But I like to fish a bit more on the edge... You have probably seen me and/or my friends out there before. They even make TV shows with us now.

Good looking steaks and roasts!!!  I never thought about golden beets.  How is the flavor with potatoes?

Our Kroger runs them for $5.99 a pound on sale every so often.  But the last time, there was virtually no fat at all in the meat so I passed.  I need to get back up to Restaurant Depot and get some good ones.  Still have a couple of cut down packs in the freezer though.

Sort of off topic, but the Kroger jumped their price of pork butts from $1.69 a pound to $2.69 a pound virtually overnight.  Did someone blow up a hog farm somewhere that I missed in the news?

Great buy on the meat and a great meal. Don't worry about the tear rolling down my face because I don't have access to great meat like that.

That is one nice hunk of ribeye Case ! The steak looked awesome & be looking forward to the roast Q view ! Thumbs Up

We love golden beets. They go great with all sorts of things!

Disco we'd ship you some up, but I hear they've closed the border after last night!

They have already stepped up patrols.

Outstanding-looking steaks!  Ribeyes are my favorite.

And HAH to the Moose Mounty!  Gotta love the suppressed AR, too.  I guess you don't want to spook a moose when you're on its back!

Where you at man? I just bought a half beef processed for $3.89/lb.

The plated shot looks fantastic, Case.  I can just imagine how good it tasted.

If I ever saw ribeye on for $5.99 a pound, I'd back the 3/4 ton up to the store door and fill 'er up!!  And if I were out of freezer space, I'd buy  another one and try later to decide how to explain it all to Miss Linda.

Thanks Gary!

I think Miss Linda called a bit ago and said you'd never be traveling to Oregon! If you did you'd need a freezer truck, cause you'd be loaded up with prime rib and tri tip!

Well then... That sounds like feed lot beef. I know there are deals out there for locker beef. In those cases, you don't know where they came from and how they are raised. I have chosen to pay more for a known quality. I buy directly from the farm and know what they are fed and visit where they are raised. I know they are hormone and antibiotic free, etc. Here is what I bought. This was a week before slaughter. Piling on the grain at the end for fattening/finishing.

With that said, and as I was saying I am tempted to forgo this route in favor of what is available through the restaurant supply Cash and Cary that Chase is raving about. For the price the quality seems to be there too, but no where near the flavor of what you get from a beef like in the photo above.

By the way Chase, have you checked out their smoker pellets there? Bear Mountain Forest Products brand. They are $8.98 for 20 lbs on sale right now. Pick your flavor!

Black Angus bought off the hoof from a local farmer I've known my entire life. He used to bring beef to my grandfather for processing.
