My husband has been lamenting the loss of smoked meat because we packed away both of the WSM's for the winter. Unbeknownst to me, he's been searching kijiji for a smoker that I can use during the winter. He found a 1 year old GMG that looks to be in good condition, with a pizza oven and a thermal blanket.

"Priced to see fast" at $1550
HAHA!
I messaged him and offered him a lower price, explaining that everything he's offering can be bought BRAND NEW for $1500, a lower price than what he's asking for.
Hubby even e-mailed him too and this guy will not budge on his price.

Oh well, the search is still on!

Oh, has anyone seen in person the new Weber Smokefire? Any personal reviews or thoughts?
I think my local BBQ store has one on display, but I won't be able to go see it for a couple more weeks. So busy!

If I can handle the cold then my WSM or Kettles can handle the cold. Unfortunately between the cold and wind this year I can't handle the cold and the cookers have remained in hibernation.

I love my insulated cabinet smoker. My last smoke it was -12 C out and I had zero issues with the cook other than cold hands. :emoji_smile_cat:

My rec tec bull runs fine all winter. Nice packages would be less than 1500... I do use the cold weather cover on it

26°f here this morning and the 14.5" WSM is fired up with the PartyQ controller humming along at 250°f.

Packing smokers away, What????

Snow Makes a great wind blocker and if you have enough make an igloo all around.

I know, putting them away was a really sad day. I felt like I was saying goodbye to a dear friend.

LOL, I may be a Canadian, but I haven't built an igloo.....in a few years.... ;)

What kind of cold are we talking about here?!? I've been running my WSM all winter even when temps were in the 10-18*F range without any issues.

Well, it's currently -20c (-4f) and temps are supposed to drop down to -30c

I tried smoking some ribs at the beginning of winter, and my 18" WSM just wouldn't get above 200* or hold that temp. I gave up and finished them in the oven (GASP!).

I am still pretty surprised how well the MES does in the winter. Bonus is it's cheap.

I have developed a mentality that smoking is seasonal. I learned this from homebrewing. With smoking, when it's cold you should be cold smoking stuff like cheese, hams, bacon and when warm you should be smoking extra food to freeze so you can eat in winter. Smoked food freezes extremely well. Had the other half of pastrami Saturday night I made back in August.

-30C??? Thank you PoukieBear for making me happier to be in So Cal. Our taxes suck but not our weather. I’m pretty sure I would not make it through a winter where I wasn’t able to smoke meat.

LOL, does that mean i need to invite all the hot headed politicians over for dinner, just so i can have a good smoke? No thanks!
Unless I can share a joint with Justin, then I'm in!
Ah yes. Justin shows up in blackface ...doobie in hand.... singing daaaayo da dayayayo.... sounds downright tropical.
Did some pizza a few days ago on the webber kettle with the pizzaque attachment. -22C ambient and the temp at the pizza stone was near 900F. I smoke all winter on the kettle. The other smokers get a rest unless we get a break from the cold.

-4F ouch... I'd be building an insulated smoking shack and putting a wood stove inside to keep the ambient temps out.

I might not deal with it at that temp either...ok truth - i wouldnt that too freakin cold! my hands would freeze to the handles. Load the freezer with product all summer and get a vacuum sealer.

Im all in on the idea of an insulated smoke shack.
Can u get someones Ice Fishing shack for cheap, rig up a chimney and run a power cord to it?

If you could get the shack and do all that for under $1,500 u already have the smokers and rigging up a constant running bathroom exhaust fan to work on a rigged up vent/chimney whould allow you to smoke year round with a simple lighting and have a place to store your BBQ stuff all in one shot lol :D

Just dreamin here but man that would be awesome for your situation :)

I wish I could, but we live in the city and our backyard is literally the size of a postage stamp.
a) We already have a large gazebo set up, taking up half the backyard
b) Hubby bought a hot tub at Christmas (Argh!) which now takes up the rest of the backyard (Argh!)

The gazebo has to go! Convert it into a smoke house. :emoji_grinning: :emoji_laughing: :emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing:
