Winco Egg-Price Ripoff!!!!

I went shopping at Winco early this morning for some essentials. I hate shopping there at the first of the month because they will jack up prices on staples due to food assistance programs and higher reimbursements. I picked up two grade AA,18-count egg cartons and didn't pay attention to the price. Got to the register. $8.98 for the first one and $13.98 for the second! ____that! I had them remove the items from my cart.

I asked the checker why the price increase. Her answer, "bird flu." My answer is not printable here.

I literally drive 6.5 miles, passing 5 other higher-priced grocery stores, to shop at Winco. The closest other grocer to my house is a quarter mile away, but their prices are too high to shop there regularly, and trust me, I've calculated the gas price delta. I went there anyway and picked up two 18-count cartons for $6.98 each, about a $1.50 more than I pay normally at Winco.

Just venting.

My local Wally world has 18 ct large eggs for around $7.50. Kroger is around $6.50. Geez.

At this point I don’t look at the price if it’s something I need, I just buy it, But for everything else, I just buy less, and try to buy sale items that I NEED! And when I’m drinking, Judy takes my iPad away from me.

OK, guess I better stop bellyaching about having to pay five bucks for an 18-count carton. I got one yesterday for $3.69, and was pretty happy about that. $8.98 and $13.98 is worse than robbery.

Went back and looked at my ledger for 2022 (been keeping track of every penny I spend for over 10 years...yes, I'm "that" person)...

For 1.5doz eggs:

Jan 10, $2.93
Nov 1, $5.93
Dec 21, $6.08

(My hens were laying in between Jan-Nov)

Thanks all for the comments. Prices have increased all year due to a lot of factors. Still, to see the price of an 18-count carton jump from $5.48 two weeks ago to the price this morning just lit my fuse.

Yep, the prices are high here, too. That's why I look on Craigslist or OfferUp for locals selling fresh eggs. Usually $4-$5 a dozen, but they're better than mass-produced ones anyway. Last guy I bought from had 3 dozen for $10. I think they're a tad more now, but still reasonable.

Am I glad my wife and kids talked me into some (chicks) that become hens last fall…. It was a battle as I was NOT a fan of chickens…. Childhood story!

Have given these a chance and they have been nothing but awesomeness! Cold weather birds and still laying!

We live in SE ID… so can be 75* one minute and snowing sideways the next…

Yep, the prices are high here, too. That's why I look on Craigslist or OfferUp for locals selling fresh eggs. Usually $4-$5 a dozen, but they're better than mass-produced ones anyway. Last guy I bought from had 3 dozen for $10. I think they're a tad more now, but still reasonable.

This goes in the "why didn't I think of that category". You made me check craigslist here, and a farm has eggs for $4 a dozen. Cash, no tax. Going Monday to check it out. Thanks for the tip Mike!

We sell ours for 4 bucks a dozen fresh. Assortment packs may have brown, blue, olive, white, dark brown, tan we were shooting for a rainbow of colors (the yuppies like colors) however most of the odd color ones don't lay as well

The one good thing about the crapola that Winco pulled this morning is I went online looking for farm fresh eggs near me. We are surrounded by farmland in two directions. A farmer's market not far away sells farm fresh eggs. Guess where I'll be buying eggs from now on.

Don't blame you a bit! Especially two different prices! We drive 10 miles to small town of 1000 people to small town grocery or 20 miles to a little bigger town with two grocery stores...I'd never shop at that store again...ever!
