Just got back from a quick trip to Winco to pick up a couple necessities. They had Choice grade untrimmed tri tips on sale for $2.98 / lb, both individually wrapped and in the bulk cryopak. I only picked up two and barely got away from the meat counter with all my appendages! People were stocking up. Can't blame 'em.

Also picked up two 18 pak Grade A egg cartons for $5.65 each. I usually buy grade AA, but they wanted $8.48 for those. I wonder if I'll be able to taste a $3 difference? We'll see.

Tri tip is always available on the west coast. Has been for decades. Then the word spread eastward. Select grade tri tip has been $5.58 to $7.98/lb for a couple months or more. Occasionally it would go on sale for $3.98/lb. I ground one from the freezer last week for chili because it was cheaper than pre-ground hamburger.

I haven't seen Choice in a couple years that were in the $3 to $4 range. I strongly suspect the eastward Interstate closures due to snow has had something to due with this availability, but that's purely speculation on my part. When I saw Choice for $2.98 / lb, it was all I could do to buy only two because I still have several in the freezer.

I'm gonna have to hit up my local WinCo. I've actually never gotten meat there (kinda stick to Costco) but with the price of things, I'll go wherever...
