This is kind of a sad day for us as this will be the last time I cook eggs from the farm. Since dad is declining fast into the world of dementia, we've sold the last of the chickens and when I was out yesterday morning to cage up the last 11 hens, I gathered eggs for the last time.

All total, I gathered 7 eggs, 4 were used for breakfast today, and the last 3 will be used in a cake tonight.

This breakfast was a favorite of dad's and I don't think I'd be exagerating to say I've cooked over a ton of potatoes like this in my 50 years...

Homemade bacon, oven toasted homemade bread with homemade plum jelly, farm fresh eggs, and diced potatoes fried up in bacon grease with onions, garlic, and thyme.

Sorry to hear that dad's not doing well hang in there as I know you will and do the best for him you can. So I guess he's going to have to leave the farm what a sad day for him. Best wishes for your family I know I'm not close but if there is anyway I can do anything to help just ask.

Thanks.

Yeah, he'll be going to the farm a few times a month to see my stepmother, but he'll be living with my sister for a little while and soon will be in an assisted living facility. She plans to stay at the farm as long as she can.

Looks Good Cranky, that's always a good breakfast.  That's tough,I feel for you. Take care and keep the memories alive.

Our neighbors have chickens so we get eggs. Day and night difference to the store bought eggs.

If thenwife would let me we'd have chickens too.

Sorry to hear about your dad, but its great that food will always remind you of better times.  I am with Al..the color of the yolks are amazing.  And it looks like you have cooked an egg or two in your life.  They look perfect!

Sorry about your Dad. Your making breakfast reminded me of once when the wife and I were visiting my dad and stepmother at the farm. She made fried eggs, bacon, and toast. It had been a while since Dad had a breakfast like that and he told my stepmom, half-jokingly, "this is the kinda breakfast you should fix for me". She ignored him as she had cooked such meals for years. Neither could do much more then than watch TV. Dad smiled and my wife was very proud. Memories related to food are the best.  Thank you for sharing your cooking expertise and your family.

Thanks all, it means a lot!

We have a LOT of memories and one thing he does recall is things that happened years ago, so we have had some laughs and he has brought up a few of my high school mishaps as well!

The color of the yolk is from feeding not only normal scratch grain, but a LOT of cracked corn as well.
