Spring has officially arrived!

Up here spring doesn't arrive when the calendar says so.  We have a sure sign that it has arrived!  I took my old pup for a little walk a couple of days ago and I finally saw one, the always welcomed crocus!  The crocus is a wild flower that blooms at the beginning of spring and is always a very welcomed sign that winter is coming to an end.  I went out today with camera in hand and I couldn't find them (I had found five of them in all).  Best I can figure is some critter liked them, too.

Or, maybe they went into hiding as the weather guessers are predicting one to two feet of snow in the high country over the next couple of days.  Good thing for us we only live at 9100 feet!

I know what you mean--spring has been a long time coming. Crows showed up here two weeks and Miss Linda has crocus blooming in her flower bed, but no robins. Then yesterday while walking Roxy, I finally saw my first robin--sitting atop the tallest aspen in front of the house. Right then I knew why they were so late this year. It was the biggest, fattest robin I've ever seen. He was so fat I figger he couldn't fly and had to walk all the way back. LOL

Well, woke up to 2-3" of snow this morning.  About half melted off even though it snow off and on all day.  We've got about 4-5" of snow right now and expecting a foot plus more by morning.  But wait, that's not all!  Tomorrow afternoon/evening/night we could possibly get another foot plus!  Good thing is, this time of year we can get a bit of snow now and then through May but it will melt off fairly quickly.

But I am still standing by my first post!  Snow is always expected here in CO even during the summer in the high country.  Spring is HERE!!!

Woke up to yet another beautiful CO mountain morning!  Over a foot of snow during the night but overcast and snowing still.  Good thing we went out yesterday to stock up on a few essentials as it may be a day or four before we get out again.  Still looking forward to more snow this afternoon/evening/night aside from the light stuff coming down all day.

If I didn't have a kitchen to paint, believe me, I'd head to the slopes for sure.  But not Vail or Aspen.  There are a few smaller places with excellent skiing close by without all of the Hollywood types or politcos and they cost a heck of a lot less.

Absolutely amazing the differences around the country.  Snow in some parts, continuous rain in others, and a drought out west.  We're going to have close to 90 this weekend and due to the drought my lawn looks like crap, we're taking Navy showers (get wet, turn off the water, soap up, rinse off), plus refilling toilet tanks with water caught in Home Depot buckets while waiting for the hot water to arrive at the handheld shower heads.

Well, here we are in May and had yet another snowfall.  Started snowing on Sat around 10 am or so and just didn't want to stop.  It was a nice heavy wet snow that was melting off not quite as fast as it was falling.  Lost power off and on throughout the day until lost it for good around 5-6 pm.  No big deal, went the entire winter without ever losing power for more than 15 minutes.  By time I went to bed there was about 8" on the ground.  Woke up to a cold house (temp got down to the low 20's) and still no power.  About 12" on the ground but figured most would melt off.  Fast forward to Mon, about 4" still on the ground and still no power.  Broke out the generator to keep the cool stuff cool and the frozen stuff frozen.  Ran out of wood in the house so had to get some damp wood from outside to keep the old wood stove going.  About three hours into running the generator we finally got power back.  Seems a substation to the west received quite a bit of damage and the electric company decided those folks along the highway needed power more than those folks not along the highway.

We live 10 miles off the highway off of a dirt road.  Nice, quiet area. 

Anyways, just your average spring at a higher elevation in the Colorado Rockies!  I did take a few pics on my cell phone (not one them smart things) and don't have a clue how to get the pics off the phone to the computer.  My daughter did say the last pic I sent her of my Blazer made it look like a minivan from the way it was covered by the snow.  That hurt.  It hurt a lot.
