Soo working holidays, who else lives the dull life?

I always work holidays it's just the job. Thanksgiving week saw me put in 68 hours :<(... bank account likes it but family is usually not too happy lol. Anyone else work all the holidays?

I've been a nurse for 30+ years. My family has never had a holiday on the holiday. Something always interfered with it. But I have now moved into a m-f 8-430 Job with weekends and holidays off. I'm giddy like a school girl.

This ^^^^^ During my 24 in the Navy I missed all kinds of stuff, but looking back the ride was pretty damn fun. I work zero holidays now as a government contractor.

As a GS employee, i have it pretty good....

M thru F, 0700 -1530, all federal holidays.

When I was still working, everyone looked forward to working holidays. They were $1,000 days. We just scheduled our get togethers around it. Don't miss it at all now and the family is much happier.

Whats a holiday ? I've worked Grocery meat for 20 years and I think it has ruined holidays for me forever. These are days to be dreaded. So many holidays have a meat theme and so many people have unreasonable, misconceived, uninformed or ill-advised notions about the meat and it's my fault it don't work they way they think it should.
The 2 days a week I have off I spend at another job. So the holiday often means my schedule will screw me out of a days pay at the second job.

I worked retail for about 13 years i agree that messed up holidays for me. As an example.. christmas music makes me wanna stab my ears out lol

As a nurse in the Emergency Department my wife works most holidays, she did get Thanksgiving Day off this year but will be working Christmas and New Years

The company I used to work for did snow plowing, so I have been called in on Christmas to plow. We had several hospitals we plowed for, and the ER entrances had to be kept clear at all times for the ambulances to bring patients in no matter what day it was. I also farm, so if I got cattle getting out, they have to be got back in and the fence fixed no matter what day it is.

When people lament working holidays, I'm not sure the calendar focus.
I'm guessing Thanksgiving and Christmas and possibly Easter as that is when the kids are on educational break and people have significant emotional ties to celebrate by the calendar date.
Before my daughter and son left the nest, they got taught that a birthday or holiday is just a day on the calendar. We celebrate when it is convenient. I was white collar in those days and never worked Thanksgiving weekend or Christmas to New Year week.

Son is a full time Fire Department. He loves working holidays to give the family people time off plus he gets extra pay and PTO credits.

We celebrate when it is convenient.

Not so much now, but I've worked on about every holiday we celebrate in the US over the years (not every one in a single year). We either just picked a different day to call the holiday, or the family carried on without me. Just the way life is sometimes. I did always get paid for the holiday plus time and a half for working it though, so the money was good.

As a farmer and livestock owner it's 365, 7 days a week. But also with different families and parents, grandparents...can't fit all family in on the holiday itself. Date is not important...quality of time with family is the important part.

Funny how many of us either worked or still work holidays. I agree though I also love the cash. I made almost double my weekly check over turkey day. I don't think I have taken an actual vacation in like 30 years lol. Mine are always medical issues O.o. I mean it's kinda a vacation right? lol

Not any more, but I did 7 days a week, 365 a year, never a day off for many years. But I was a young man then!

I worked for the gov for 34 years so didn't work too many holidays. My wife is a charge nurse so pretty much works them all. Somehow we have still managed to make it work with family and friends. We just have multiple holiday parties/get togethers.

Now I am three months retired so it makes it even easier. It is also why I can post here late at night.

No more waking up at ungodly hours to sit in bumper to bumper LA traffic for two hours for just over 30miles. Do my day and repeat it to get home.

I worked rotating 12 hour shifts and if my shift was scheduled to work, I had to work. I've been retired for about 6 years now, but I remember working on holidays and we didn't get any extra money for it...
