Tri tip is plentful here in California, but I never realized it was not common elsewhere such as the east coast. Obviously the meat isn't discarded, so where does the meat that makes up tri tip end up elsewhere? Are portions of it part of other cuts that aren't common here in CA?

Most places threw it into the grinder for burger and sausage.
Back then it was one of the cheapest cuts on a beef.
