Tomorrow will be my final day of fabrication for my first Smoker Build! All that's left is to fab up the adjustment arm on the damper for the exhaust. Today I welded in some threaded couplings for the thermometers, added some weather protecting "eyebrows" above the therms, made some utility hooks and last but not least, a cup holder for my beers! Can't wait to fire this bad boy up!

Let me guess for the door handle spring;    You are going to use a F 250 front end spring??

Last details added today and now fabrication is COMPLETE! I used the spring handles from some old chipping hammers for the latch on the firebox door and the exhaust damper. One last look before she heads off to paint!

Man that looks good. I like the "eyebrows" I have seen that on Lang smoker I think. I was planning on doing the same thing.

Thank you! Yes, we have a full blown industrial paint shop where I work. Couple of 12 packs and they are going to blast it and spray it with a high temp black. Hoping to get squeezed in next week.

The thickness of the pipe and plates used is 3/8".
While you may not be interested in changing professions, you're never too old to learn something new! I teach welding at the community college and regularly have students in their 50's and 60's take the class simply as hobbyists. Most of the time, they end up being my best students.

Thanks for the encouragement. I would take a welding class if there were one available at a community college near me. I'm reaching for my 75th birthday; so there are some physical limitations that I didn't have when younger which would prevent me starting a new career. I DO enjoy learning and especially learning new skills.

looks amazing! hope to have some more time this spring to learn up some welding... wasnt able to squeeze the welding classes at the area votech into my schedule... maybe next January but i do have a few friends that have offered their help which i do plan on jumping on
