Just saw a CL listing by me for an Oklahoma Joe. Bought last year, used 5 times asking $275. I assume its the larger one because the seller states it retails over $400...is that a good price?

I assume it's not modded...but if I were to mod w RTV sealant or stove gaskets, is it easy to dissamble once its been used?

I will PM the seller a few questions.

Thoughts? Im gonna get the okay from the wife. I have a masterbuilt xl propane, but i have been looking at getting into charcoal. Ive been looking at the OKJ and the WSM.

I actually have both the wsm and the highland. I started with the wsm for a few years, got a blower for Christmas this year. It virtually became set and forget for 12+ hours... I became bored. I now use it for overnight cooks only, so I can sleep peacefully, and use the highland on shorter cooks. Ribs, chicken, loin, etc.. my son and I spend all day outside if the weathers nice so I don't mind tending a fire, and neither does he. If I were to choose one, wsm all the way, even without a temp controller.

I definitely think the wsm is the easiest of the two. Im going to look at the OKJ on sunday. It seems to be the Highland model. 200$ is the agreed upon price, bought last year and used sparingly with no modifications.

Im interested in buying this to step in the world of offsets. If i end up purchasing this smoker, i will do the mods on it to make this a better smoker.

I have the OK Joe Highland, only mod I did was seal the fire box and added a convection plate. Smokes and cooks beautifully. It's a great way to join the off set crowd without investing lots of money...

Thats my thinking, I'm looking for a cheap way to join the offset club. I have a lot to learn.

Well I ended up buying a new OKJ Highland at Lowes. I paid $241 + tax after having them price match Walmart at $268 plus an extra 10%.

I ended up being jerked around by the CL seller. They were supposed to contact me at a certain time so we could meet to look at the smoker. Well, i ended up checking my phone every few minutes for the next 1.5 hours...then I get an email saying that I need to answer QUICKLY because someone else maybe interested!!!! Talk about fishing for another offer!!!

So instead of replying QUICKLY, I thought to myself "F* it, Im gonna drive to Lowe's and price match it because I'll gladly pay $50-60 more for something that is brand new and that I could modify during assembly."

Now I'm just looking forward to modifying it. I have the RTV sealant and will be ordering a gasket for the CC and FB. I'm gonna make a charcoal basket and possibly lower the exhaust. As for tuning plates, I'm going to try the grill grate hack on YouTube before buying anything else.

Thanks guys, looking forward to it. I turned out lots of great Q in a masterbuilt propane smoker so the offset will be a learning experience.
