I pondered this while running a more permanent extension cord to my Rec Teq. In short I ran it out an old conduit from the garage then under the deck and up. its way better. I use a portable GFCI thing and thats in a surge protector.

The Question: Do you unplug your pellet grill between cooks? I am guessing yes but figured I would get opinions.
I used to keep my Traeger plugged in but, since I went back to using a kettle as my primary cooker, I keep the outlet open for the rotisserie.

So after this discussion I bought two of these. One for pellet and one for Electric. Went out to put on electric and forgot I have a smart plug on it. Oh well use it anyway.

Just sharing that a car hit a power pole about a mile or down the road from us 5 or so weeks ago…. The surge was so bad it fried EVERYTHING connected. Air conditioners, furnaces, fridges, washer and dryers, ie the meters and house panels even caught fire…. If it was connected it smoked….. It left 3k peps out of power for full week. Estimated 2-3 mill in damage….the pep that hit had 250K in property damage coverage….didn’t even cover the pole and line repair…..I feel bad for the home peps……

We were lucky. As we just had a short term outage…..with 10 or so panel breakers tripped….

Portable items with corded plugs are inherently designed to be unplugged when not in use…..
