Was just scrolling up and down and noticed there are more topics and posts under the pork heading than anywhere else.
Which brings to mind, is it Pig Butts, or Baby Back Ribs, or just great Bacon craven?

(I admit, I'm in whole hog myself...)

I'm just glad my religious beliefs don't preclude me from enjoying a little (or a lot of) pork. Now my doctor sometimes suggests otherwise. :D

I know we eat more pork at our house because its so much cheaper than beef.
burger cost 3$ a pound and I can get pork loin for 1.69$ hell right now tenderloin is buy 1 get 1 free so yup I cook more pork

There is a butcher shop here that I get most of my meat from and every spring they do a hog sale they sell the whole hog cut and wrapped for 1.29$ a pound its a little bit more to get the bacon or hams smoked but still for under300$ you have a lot of pork

It's interesting how, if I asked, most people I know would say theirs was a beef family. When I ask them what they have been making for dinner it's almost always pork or poultry. Thinking doesn't match reality. My family is all about the swine! Big beautiful butts and country style ribs!

Pork is definitely the easiest protein to smoke, or cure then smoke. Most forgiving animal on the planet. Hmmm, I just had an interesting thought about forgiveness and those who forbid pork. Moving on.

I checked my smoking/grilling log for 9 months of 2017. 163.25 lbs of poultry, 125.52 lbs of pork, 105.07 lbs of beef. By quantity, those results reflect cheapest protein to most expensive. That averages 1.47 lbs / day for two people, or just under 12 oz per day, each, if we ate it all, which we didn't. Some we served or gave away to family.

Yep, pork has more action than any of the other sections.
I know I love my ribs & PP!
Al
Same here Al. But we don't have ribs all that often here. Not often enough.... :(

Yep, there is that. But I'm kind of strapped, the wife could eat chicken 32 days out of the month, my doctor screams NO MORE RED MEAT!, and aside from ribs the wife isn't a big pork fan.

I raised a hog and a steer in Northern California once. Sir Francis Bacon, and Trouble Calf. Raised like pets, slaughtered and butchered for meat. That's life on the farm.

As kids, most of us were indoctrinated to think "Beef! It's what's for dinner!" And McDonald's has poked so many billions of hamburgers through car windows they've lost count.

Ray, you are way more organized than I would ever think of being. Hundredths of a pound? Is that before, or after cooking?
(Pullin your leg... ;) Don't ever change.)

I found out there is a Halal Market in my town. I was thinking of asking if they sold bacon....

I believe in God. But I do not believe in man's interpretations. :)
