South Louisiana-Yes, it is HOT
Buddy of mine went on a rabbit hunt this past weekend. Ran across a huge flush of fresh oyster mushrooms that had just popped out after the snow melt. He just brought them to me...about 3#!!!

used to love picking! have to get back into it lol

I am not a mushroom guy but I know the price of them and how hard to get especially up around here. always nice to find or receive wild grown produce .
Good for you, can't wait to see what you do with them.

Wow, that is a great score Keith… looking forward to what all you do with them. That soup sounds amazing!

Oh what the heck, that's so lucky! Fresh, wild oyster mushroom really are the best.
Thanks Astra! They grow prevalent down here along the swamps and rivers. The most common edible mushroom we have here.

Thank you David. I have changed some minds on mushrooms. Wild oyster mushrooms are just special.

Fantastic! We have a pretty good supplier at the farmer's market but it's still kinda luxe. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Is that King mushroom at the market? I had a great member send me some of them once, they were great. I need to time when they get morels so I can try them.

Yum those will be good! We get huge flushes of the golden oyster here. I plan on looking for them this year. From what I can understand some of the flushes can be 20-30 lbs!

Prime ribeyes grilled perfectly on the Weber, Sauteed oyster mushrooms with butter & onion, and steamed broccoli!

To make the shroom...I tear them by hand, but use a knife to chop the base and trim off any wood.

Saute the onion in butter until it gets a little brown, then Mushrooms added to the pan in batches to let them shrink down...then a little salt and pepper. Delicious! I could make myself sick eating them!

Brother came over for dinner and grilled the steaks outside while I prepared the shrooms and broccoli. No pics...he forgot to take any.

I drove down to the Mississippi river today to walk inside the levee to look for more oyster mushrooms. It is a 5 minute drive from my house....Boy did I find them! Second flushes were popping out from the big first flush after the snow melted. Filled up 3 plastic grocery bags in about 30 minutes. Only walked a little over 100 yards...

I will be going back next time conditions are right...little cool with fog, possibly after a rain....

*edit...just checked the weather....thick fog next 4 days overnight and into the morning...more mushrooms should be popping out!
