I'll be heading to the butcher this weekend and I am looking for some ideas on what to get to feed 6 people (4 kids). Keep in mind this'll only be my 3rd smoke, so keep it simple (but finger lickin' good)!

Thanks in advance!

Jon

Ribs are easy, relatively quick and finger licking good. Two racks will feed six with a few left over for a late night snack. Search 3-2-1...JJ

I'll concur with the Pulled Pork and Ribs suggestions, and throw in Chickens.

Two whole birds or sufficient parts, leg quarters 1 per person, breasts 1 per person or thighs 2 per person.
Add sides/dessert and you've a spankin nice BBQ meal.

Yeah, what they said! Ribs, PP, and chicken are great ideas and easy enough to do.

If you want beef, throw a couple of chuck roasts on and smoke them until they hit around 195, shred and make sammichs.

Easiest: commercial sausage or bratwurst.

Next easiest: leg quarters. Dark meat is very forgiving, doesn't need brining, and smoked chicken is always well received. Short smoke, relatively speaking.

Next easiest: Spare ribs. Very forgiving, and who doesn't love a rib, especially kids. 3-2-1 works best for newbies.

Forgiving, but experience helps: pork butt. Takes time, which drives new smokers crazy. If you can put it on and forget about it, pork butt is very forgiving. Kids get a kicked out of eating pork "butt."
