Baker, FL
Hello all,

My name is Jason and I currently live in Baker, FL.  I am a novice when it comes to smoking but I am looking forward to learning.  On a whim I decided that I wanted to smoke a turkey for Thanksgiving (2010) so I went to Lowe's and bought the cheapest smoker I could find.  I figured that if I tried and failed then I didn't waste a lot of money on a smoker and if I tried and succeeded, then I could probably smoke using anything :D.  Well the turkey came out great (if I say so) and decided to try my hands at a couple of racks of spare ribs a couple of weekends ago.  They came out great as well.  I look forward to communicating with some/all of you and doing a lot of research to get better.  Maybe one day the wife will let me upgrade my smoker as well.

Welcome!!

 Lots of info here.

Check out the WIKIs and use the search tool too!!!

Wow, what a response.  I just wanted to thank everyone for the great welcome.  I can tell how special this place is going to become to me.  So thanks again everyone, I am learning a lot and I am currently on my 4th day of the 5 day course.  I went shopping last night and picked up some spare ribs and a boston butt.  Think it is going to be a smokey weekend.

First off welcome Jason to SMF. I'min the jax area here. You'll like it here cause there are alot of really good folks that would just love to help you with anything to do with smoking. Now we like having new folks here to give a new prospective on some of the ways we do things around here. Now if you are really new then I would suggest that you sign up fir the 5-day E-course it free and it will give you the basics on smoking and a few recipes too. Here's a link to it:

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/list/127

then you will have a method to your newly found madness and believe me it will be a madness. Then when you start smoking things you will have to learn how to post the pictures / Qview

here. So here's a link to a tutorial on how to post your Qview so we can see what your doing.

 http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/thread/82034/how-to-post-qview-to-smf

Now the next thing you have to do is run out and get something to smoke. Then just smoke it and if you have any questions just post  them here and we will answer all your questions that you might have. Oh yea there's no stupid questions we were all there in the beginning and we just really like to help others enjoy the fabulous smoked foods that we do. So again

This past weekends events went pretty well.  The ribs were a big hit, but for the life of me I could not get the butt up to temp so I had to bring it in and put it in the oven.  It still turned out great.  We went through one slab of ribs and a little bit of the butt.  So Monday and Tuesday I had ribs for lunch (got some hungry looks when I re-heated them at lunch) with a pulled pork sandwich.  And then last night we put the remaining pork in yellow rice for dinner.  Publix was having a sale on their ribs so it was about $7 for a good sized slab. Definitely stretched our dollar with this weekends smoking.

First things first WELCOME FRIEND!!! You have a whole new family with many opinions but the catch is they are mostly all good.  My mouth WANTED to water with you talking about ribs and pulled pork....however my imagination isn't so good.  Invest in a cheap camera or use the one on a cell phone to snap shots of your work, good and bad to show us, we all respond better with pictures. And it is much more simple than it used to be with the button thingys at the top of the page, just mouse over them till you find the one that says 'insert image'  then upload the action photos and in progress get me going photos and dont forget the MONEY SHOT.  You will get to the point your posts will be all about the money shot and the amount of drool you hear about.

good luck!
