I woke up this morning with a feeling that I just didn't have enough equipment. When I was a kids Hibachis were really popular.  No patio was without one. Some were good and some were junk. I see them every now and then on the "seasonal isle" next to cheap charcoal and lighter fluid (Gasp) at the grocery stores.  Most look already broken sitting on the shelf!

Ive been thinking about buying one.  ..I know I know..  You're thinking "Hey Brian, that Smokey Joe you made your mini out of is like a round hibachi only better!. Why not use it?" ...Well I do when cooking for just the wife and I...  And  really can't explain why I'm considering a hibachi...

Maybe its nostalgia... Maybe I've lost my mind. Maybe its just to see the look on Teri's face when she sees another cooker on the patio! Who knows.

Anyone out there have opinion or info on good quality units?

Thank folks.

Brian

Hey B! I'm with you and Al...how can a guy have too many patio toys? I had to chuckle when you mentioned the look on Teri's face...I'm very familiar with that look from Mrs. Red! :icon_rolleyes:

I always admired those little hibachis myself.

Hey BD I would go with the lodge.

I have wanted to get one for quite a while now. A buddy got one like the first one you posted and it was a piece of $#!% and it fell apart after a couple of cooks. He bought it off of Amazon.

Wish I had my parents old one. Themat thing was great, but they sold it in a garage sale when I was pretty young.

Hey BD !!

When I got back from Vietnam, I got stationed in Hawaii (1969).

Mrs Bear flew down to be with me for the 54 weeks I spent there.

We bought a Hibachi it the PX, and I used it at least every weekend.

It was the only thing we could afford, and it was small enough to ship to PA with the rest of my stuff.

I made a lot of Great Steaks & Burgers on that little thing.----Loved It.

I would have taken it with me to my next station (Ft Hood), but by the time all of my household goods got to PA, I had already left home, and was in Texas. It took 30 days by "Slow Boat" for my stuff to get from Hawaii to PA.

Wow Brian!  You sure can bring back memories!  I've burnt through a few of those hibachis on apartment "patios" during my irreverent years!  I like the Lodge model but it doesn't have those cool adjustable grates.

LOL  I guess they must think that we could have worse interests. So they just let it go! B

I'm leaning towards the Lodge Case. It looks like it will last. Been shopping the price a bit. $89 - $104.

Went to the Lodge website and its no longer listed there.  Surely they are not discontinuing this thing.

Bear, I didn't know you spent time at Hood.  Youre an honorary Texan!

That Lodge looks pretty good from here.  That would be my choice.

It's looking good from down here too Gary.

Thanks Mike.  Yeah not much on adjustment.  Guess that means I'll need good charcoal placement and management. B

Hey BD, if it's going to last it's gotta be cast.

Your grand kids will be using that Lodge.

To many toys, Bah Humbug (gers).

   Ed
Ed  You've convinced me.

And the winner is........  AND found one heck of deal too!  Most were listed around the $100 range.  Look for a few 70s throwback grilling posts!

Can't go wrong there! Let's see some t-bones on that thing!!
Happy to see you survived the storm ol buddy.

Yup... T=Bones would be good.  This little unit should be just the trick when I'm cook for just the 2 of us.  And some throwback fun too!  B

Mrs Bear was with me there too, in Killeen (Kilgore Street) for my last 7 months until my ETS of May 15, 1971.

Hey B, Hope it brings you many hours of fun and good food too.

Please tell us what you think of it.

It looks great in the pictures, I kinda want one too.

Be just right for me and Mrs. gear.

Those are a flashback for sure! They do seem smaller today than I remember them though. I almost bought one for my daughter last year (she asked for one) and in my search I found the "Son-Of-A-Hibachi" instead. If you haven't seen it before, check it out! I love the fire blanket case it goes in too.
