The post about @forktender "whatcha gonna cook Mama for Mother's Day reminded me of a story from years ago when I was a young man in the Coast Guard. Our tight circle of friends included about 5 couples and just a couple of single guys. Whenever we got together and were planning a meal, Scott would ask what he could bring. It was always "oh bring some chips and dip."

He finally got tired of that and said "Hey just because I'm single, doesn't mean I can't cook." So on our next get together, my wife said fine, bring some sort of casserole. He brought a casserole and when we were serving it, out came one of those sports socks with the stripes on it. He said "I was wondering where that went!" Turns out it was a brand new sock (or so he said). I still smile when I think of that.

Years and years ago I worked for a large company in the Seattle area. Holidays were times to have a group potluck. They would have a signup sheet to bring various items.
Thanksgiving was my first time and most of the major items were covered except dessert.
I signed up for pumpkin pie. Mind you I was a young single guy in those days.
I baked a couple of pies the night before.
Brought them the next day and added to the items in conference room.
Sometime during the morning someone noticed they were homemade and not from Safeway. Questioned with "Who made them for you?". When I said "I baked them", I turned into the very eligible bachelor.

After reading @forktender other thread... I have a sudden craving for seafood!
Bet his casserole got a new nickname though!
