Hey everyone!

Just checking in.  Kinda new to this whole smoking world and already getting obsessed.  I'm a Realtor here in Albuquerque and just purchased a WSM 22.5.  I will be giving her her maiden voyage this weekend with a couple drunk chickens while my 49ers rock the Seachickens.  I'm naming the first chicken Richard Sherman....and the second Pete Carroll.   Figure thats a good place to start since I hear they run a little hot at first (the WSM, not Seattle).  Then plan on hitting a whole turkey next weekend.

Quick question.  Not sure if this is that area to ask but what is preferred in terms of Charcoal? Lump, briquettes?

Anyway, excited to learn new stuff here! Thanks!!

Welcome aboard!  Glad you've joined the group...congrats on that new WSM!  Those are nice rigs.  To answer you're question: opinions on that will vary...its been a long time since I cooked in a charcoal rig, but I always preferred lump over briquettes.  I thought I got a hotter, more consistent temp with lump, and didn't need to add more charcoal as often.

If you ask the same question over in the charcoal smoker forum, you'll likely get a lot more responses.

Good luck and Happy Smoking!

Awesome!  Thanks guys!  I'll be busy this weekend smoking chickens and ribs.  I got some salmon but that looks pretty tricky from what I have read...
