Hey y’all—

I’m Eric from beautiful Oakland, CA—you know, the place that used to have pro sports.

Spent a lot of my childhood eating great family and take-out BBQ in Chicago—but when I came to Cali for college, I learned pretty quick that good BBQ is darn hard to find here—so I’ve been teaching myself for decades.

I like Japanese whisky, playing the bass, watching football, playing with my dog—and all things BBQ! I like to cook, each, shop for meat, experiment with different woods and rubs—I like it all! I get an annual trip to KC for a couple of days of inspiration—LC’s, Joe’s, Q39…so many choices!

Just upgraded from a heavily modded WSM to a Lone Star Grillz IVS…that I bought from a member here! Love the thing, though the cyber Q is a little wonky. Learnin’ and burnin’ every weekend.

If you got the Lone Star appears you've been following for some time. Happy you ponied up to join the circus.
Well at least other pro sports are in the area?

I live in the east bay long the Ca delta. At least we kept the good'er teams. Been Raiders fan my whole life, can't hardly stand to watch them for the past few yrs, because they SUCK as bad as they do.
I had high hopes when they moved to L.V, what a letdown they have been, it's embarrassing. Never really cared for the A's, been a Giants fan since I was a kid,and now a 9er fan. Mainly due to the massive SUCK, the TRaider's have become.

I love going to visit my buddy in Olathe, the Que is 100x better than anything I've found around here, and way less money.

Keep an eye out, As I am going to try to have a weekend Cali get together in the spring. Either at my house or in Clayton at my buddies working cattle ranch. That way people can bring thier smoker trailers, RV or sleep under the stars in tents.

It's by no means a for sure thing as of yet, but it's in the skunk work stages.

Welcome to the family.

You're only about 25 miles from me.

Dan.

Thanks for the welcome, y'all, and Dan, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the event in the spring!

The NFL is trying to drive me away. Went to my first Raiders game in the Coliseum in the late '60's (yeah, I'm old), and very very bitter that they are gone. Feel the same way about the A's; as an east bay guy, the SF teams never had the same emotional appeal. And with the Niners in Santa Clara--I mean, at least I go to the City--I'm never down there!

And yeah, the KC area BBQ is absolutely fabulous. Those places seriously inspire me--I always go hard after that trip!
