So I got a new thermometer this weekend and unlike the Weber Igrills the probes have no markings or sleeve distinguishing them apart.
I use heat shrink at work and thought that would be a great way of distinguishing each probe. They are colour coded in the app so colouring each probe makes sense.
Would I be ok with heat shrink inside the smoker? It won't be anywhere near direct flames just exposed to long periods of heat. I'd hate for the heat shrink to give of fumes or gas and be unsafe.
Anyone have any input or thoughts on this?
Thanks
Trundle

Heat shrink?  Absolutely.  I have used heat shrink on all my probes.  I also wrapped then in high temp glass tape, probably overkill, but it was more for strength to prevent kinking at the joint, which ruins the probe.

trundle--thats a good plan. The first thing i do when I get a new probe for my Maverick is put some heat shrink tube on. I make it a point to cover the junction of the probe and cable. That makes it almost waterproof. Getting that junction wet is one of the major factors in probe failure.

No problems, man. Probably 90% of us use shrink tube on our probe joints. About 2" of tube and a bic lighter, then everything is good to go. The heat in the smoker will never effect it.
