Hi folks,
Very glad to have found this group. I have my brother's Stag in a month and am cooking for 23 so have decided to take the leap and build my first UDS.
I am addicted to watching BBQ Pit Kings and YouTube vids of builds. Sadly the UK is not a great place to find all the necessary parts for a build.
I am a good chef, and just starting out on the 'proper' bbq path - I'm sure our other UK members have already talked about the normal outdoor cooking over here - crap disposable bbqs, burnt burgers, undercooked chicken with a side of salmonella.
I haven't found a food grade drum, or an unlined drum, anywhere near my price range and this is going to be the biggest challenge.
I have got two smaller drums that had mineral oil in, and a closed head 55 which held sweet almond oil. I'm going to try and angle grind the lid off so I can still use it, and have got as far as grinding the paint off the outside.
On the inside there is a tan liner that I'm hoping will come off with a good burn out.
The two smaller drums I'm making into regular bbqs just to get used to grinding, painting etc.
Any pointers on suppliers for drums and parts would be greatly appreciated x
