Finally got a smoker

After weeks of using a smoke box on my Weber, I finally got a smoker. I went with the Rec Tec 340. Breaking her in today with a pork butt!

Congrats, that's a darned fine unit! If I was going to get a pellet popper that's exactly the one I'd opt for, my friend @Smokin' in AZ has one and he pulls off some astounding cooks with it. RAY

Came out great! Very flavorful and moist. I read some people don't think pellets give off enough smoke flavor which worried me at first but this had awesome smokey flavor

Pellets are wood and they produce smoke. Everyone, including me, has an opinion and a preference. None are wrong, just different. Good to hear that the butt turned out moist and favorable.

Looks great! You know, one thing ive noticed is that since ive gotten my smoker my gas grill doesnt get uncovered near as much.

Looks really moist.

I got my Rt-340 last november (after using the drop in smoker boxes - remove one grill grate and put smaller one in and then insert a smoker box - on my Weber S330 for years).

Really glad I did as it has definitely upped my game, the pork butts and other stuff was ok but was way more work, now it's pretty much set and forget.

I have not done a list of my cooks like some have (maybe I will at some point) but if you have any questions about a cook send me a PM!

Oh and BTW I have only been using LumberJack pellets and they are fantastic.

A pork butt:

Just a Small Butt.....

Well I was able to get a butt (6.5 lb.) on the smoker the other day. Got it rubbed (which is how I like my butts) with yellow mustard and Jeff's rub. Then onto the Rec Tec @ 225 degrees. 4 hours later 9 hours later..... Inside and resting. Bone pulled ....clean as a whistle...

A chuck pot roast:

Picked up a nice Chuck Pot Roast that weighed 3.75 lbs the other day from Safeway with the intent of smoking it and pulling it. Injected the night before with just plain ole vegetable broth and into a tupperware container and lid to seal it overnight. Went with yellow mustard then Jeff's Rub...

I used lumberjack apple blend for the pork butt I got some ribs I'm going to do next and use the same pellets.
