So here is my little rant...
My brother in law and I have the same grill (stock Char-Griller Outlaw with SFB). Last weekend he came over to my house for a BBQ to celebrate my wife's birthday. He saw my grill and how I was lighting my Kingsford Blue bag briquettes. He started in about how his grill is immaculately clean, and he cleans it down after every grill with soap and water then reseals everything with vegetable oil. He also laid into me because I use the briquette chimney and not lighter fluid. His next criticism was that I have some surface rust on the SFB. I told him that it is a combo of water being sprayed over the fence when he waters his plants (he called BS to this) and that some of my smokes go into late night and I have to let it cool overnight before covering it (he said that I need to stay awake until it is cool enough to cover). His last one was the fact that I use dry chucks laid into a smoker box next to the briquettes and let them smolder that way instead of soaking chips and placing them directly on the coals. I told him that I tried that and I find the chunks better, to which he retorted that his way is the only way of a true smoke.
I questioned him on what has he cooked in his and what is the longest time he has cooked for. He stated that he has only done burgers, dogs and steaks and that his longest cook is about 2 hours. I told him that I do 18 hour briskets, 10 hr pulled porks, and 6 hr ribs all the time on this grill thus it shows more wear. He just barked at me how I can’t keep my grill clean and organized, I am a disgusting slob when it comes to taking care of my things, and that my grill be rusted so bad by next spring that I will have to get a new grill. The last thing he said as he was leaving the area was that if I followed his rules for keeping my grill up that I wouldn’t be getting the TBS and my food would taste better.
To all this his bbq/smoking is ok, no one really compliments him on it, but people are still complimenting me on the ribs and brisket that I did months ago.
…end rant
I believe that the etiquette calls for one man not to criticize the others grill nor to touch unless asked to do so.
Thoughts?
