Am I the only one that gets angry at folks that have thier earlobes with a cell phone?
The most annoying thing to me is having a conversation with some while they are Texting someone else; 'HuH? Sorry , Larry was ...'.
Makes me want to slap 'em and introduce them to another version of TEXTING!!!
What are your feelings

I have a cell phone to make and recieve calls . No text no media pakage, no music no pics just phone calls.

I use my cellphones only to talk, not For text or internet or music... Computers are for that...

My contracts are all up and come tuesday the 10th my phones will be shut off. I can't wait just back to a good old house phone. Have you seen what cell phones can do to a popcorn kernel. I don't want that $hit around my head or my kid's heads anymore. for your viewing plessure

My first job was as a morse code operator in the coast guard. Just dits and daws. Then we went to RT radiotelephony, voice communications to you civilians, a giant step forward.
Telephones of the time were firmly attached to the wall with only a 3 foot cord. long enough to rest your foot on a nearbye chair but not long enough to actually sit on one. Our first phone was only for emergencies and lived across the street at the neighbours. There were 5 families on our party line, it was first come first served and the whole neighbourhood stuck their nose into your business.

Then out came those huge bulky portable phones. You needed a trained yak to carry it around for you. The battery lasted about 7 minutes so the long winded had a natural barrier to their ramblings. Eventually phones got smaller and light enough so that even a non weight lifter could handle them. For the first time everyone could be in easy communication with each other. Another huge step forward.
Then for some unknown reason some idiots decided to put keyboards on their phones and sold them to the public.
Now instead of having a pleasant conversation with a friend or aquaintance We get to count the dandruff flakes on the back of their head as they squint at that tiny little keyboard typing out inane messages punctuated with lol's and tuvm's, smiley faces and the like. Not to mention them stumbling around hither and thither looking for more bars. Verison be dammed.

If my phone rings it better be a person on the other end not some cutsie message in tiny letters on an equally tiny screen. Because my phone doesn't have a screen. I'm with eman and bbqfans on this one.

Thread moo-ved from "Beef" to "General Discussion".

I answered with "Sometimes". My kids are the masters at multi-tasking and the can carry on a conversation and text at the same time and do it seamlessly.

Now when my brother tries to do that, he fails miserably. He can't seem to move his mouth when his thumb is busy!!

In as much as I cannot stand cell phones yet understand their value in certain circumstances, the one thing I detest is people having them glued to their head while driving!

It's a car, not a phone booth! Hang up and drive!!!

Should be a jailable offense drivin an talkin on one a them. Can't tell ya how many close calls I have with the work truck each week cause some idiot is yakin on that phone an not payin attention where there drivin.

Yes sir, make it a law, get caught talkin an drivin, spend 6 months in jail, no excuses, no exceptions. Sure would cut back on some a the accidents.

It seems like a lot of people at my office have MP3 players with their ear buds in all the time. It burns me up to go talk to someone, and they don't take those da mn things out to give you their full attention. If someone was texting, I would stop talking and let them finish and maybe say "Oh, am I bothering you"? Since I am a high level manager, I would ask them to come see me when they were through with their personal business.

I was brought up in a different time and had parents (at least my mom) that insisted on courtesy and respect. When I got a job at the local grocery store stocking shelves and bagging / carrying out groceries, my mom basically grabbed me and set me down and gave me the lecture that you will be respectful and treat the customers like they are the only thing that matters. When I started running the register, she made a big point that I greet each customer personally and count their change back to them. I also was on the hook for saying thank you and please come again. I can't tell you how angry it makes me when the kids today that are at store registers just throw your change at you, and look at you with their mouths hanging open catching flies. Courtesy and respect have gone out the window, along with personal responsibilty as far as I'm concerned.

ive never sent a text message in my life. have received a couple, but called the person who texted me.

We teach a cooking class to 4H kids and have 9 grandkids. We finally had to make a rule for the class that cell phones are not allowed in class. We thought we had it curbed when everytime they touched the phone we made em wash their hands but even that didn't work.
With the grandkids we put a no cell phone or iPod rule in for all meals. That has worked well until I got a business call from an Admiral who's building I secure was locked out of his office

My nephew showed me how he can alert his whole crew of 30 people with one text, which shows value. Then I see some kid driving a moped texting and not looking at traffic. It's like the fight against drunk driving and teens w/o the booze. And yes, it is so rude to converse with someone who obviously has no skills in priorities with personal calls and texts. It's like the texting is their life support or something and they can't break free from just one stupid "so, what ya doin?" text call. Then you get the "he's cluless" sideways glance.

While I agree it can be annoying, I do believe that texting does have some uses. Texting orders to employee's on the road or in the field leaves no doubt as to what you want, and they can reference it again if they need to.

As for cell use on the road.. While I detest people who are distracted, and cant walk and chew gum at the same time, I have seen the affects of banned phones on the road with severe penalties while I was in Australia. This was 12 years ago mind you, but what I saw was people making mad dashes beyond all reason to get to the side of the road to answer phones. This includes 5 lanes of 65MPH traffic on a highway. We had 2 close calls in just three weeks due to this while we were there. Whats the answer?? blow up all cell phone towers?? doubt there is a real answer other than trying to teach the next generation some common sense which has been lost by the last two.

Here is the snopes facts on the popcorn and egg cooking by cellphone hoax

I really cann't say much cause I have had a cell for since they were really mobile phones and they were only in the car with a big box connected to it in the trunk. I cann't go anywhere with out mine on my hip. I have gone on vacation where I know it doesn't work and still wear it. So I have been bitched at for it but I only use it when I need to not when I'm talking to someone else or at the sales counter in a c-store. I try to be nice about it and not use it when I'm driving (ok not alot) but I can see where it is a distraction. I hate the whole texting thing our kids will NOT answer the phone but if you text them bang there they are. So if I affend you sorry. But

I use a Blue Tooth so it's hands free and I can continue driving being aware of my surroundings. Now these mental midgets texting and holding the phones to their ears brings out the beast in me. I want to rip off their arms and beat them with the bloody stumps.
Sorry, I couldn't say how I really feel on this forum!!!!!

Mballi3011 In several States and Provinces cell phone usage while driving is illegal and more importantly its dangerous. We'd hate to lose you.

Most people have difficulty doing ONE thing well. Two things at the same time is virtually impossible. Talking on a cell phone while driving is trying to do at least three things at the same time, driving, talking and thinking about both things, and can not be safely done by anyone. Hands free or not. There have been at least two studies I know of that have shown that driving while cell talking is more dangerous than driving while slightly intoxicated. Hang up and just DRIVE!
