Good morning and welcome to the forum from a beautiful warm and humid day here in East Texas, and the best site on the web.         Lots of great people with tons of information on just about everything.

Well, electric can be a great place to start.  One advantage is that you can concentrate on learning to smoke cook or BBQ food and will not need to spend as much time learning temperature management, fire management etc.  There's also a lot to be said for just plugging a smoker in as opposed to scrounging up wood, charcoal etc.

With that said, it's hard to make a specific recommendation without some idea of a budget, how mush storage and cooking space you have and how much of what you want to smoke and what kind of space you have to smoke it in.

I suspect that the different versions of the Masterbuilt Electric Smoker (AKA "MES") outnumber the next 2-3 types of smokers combined for good reason.  They are reasonably priced, come in a variety of sizes/styles and turn out some darn good food.

Where do you live?
