Since I'm going away tomorrow on my birthday I decided to cook myself some birthday food today...

I started the day off with some BBB from another round of the Buckboard Express.

Some good stuff

Then I made a yellow pudding cake from scratch

& started some bread.

While the bread was rising I made some old style icing from scratch

& applied it to the cake.

Bread ready to punch down.

After I beat up the bread I started warming the smoker up & got some hickory pellets ready in the AMNPS.

I prepped this bottom round

with a bit of SPOG

& threw it gently into the smoker.

Smoker temp 220                            AMNPS running hickory pellets

When the bread was almost done I mixed up a batch of Special Brownies & tossed them in the oven.

Ok I pulled the bottom round & it is wrapped & resting...

Moving along I grabbed a New York Strip

Mild earthquake - please stand by...

Ok that's better... I gave it a light dusting of fresh ground salt & pepper along with a bit of garlic

& in the smoker it went to take on some hickory. Pay no attention to the meat probe there - it was in the bottom round & I didn't take it out to clean off yet...

Once the steak was in the smoker I got out a nice Vidalia onion

Chopped it up & started cooking it.

I peeled some potatoes & started them boiling softly.

& then the special brownies got done so I took them out.

The onions are almost done.

All the baked goods together relaxing...

I decided I needed mushrooms as well to go with my steak

& some of those should be split off so that

I could add some heat to them

with a generous helping of my Habanero pepper

Stove getting filled up now - onions are off screen to the left.

So what day before birthday meal would be complete without some homemade sausages?

I put a few brats on the grill & added a few ears of corn to watch over them.

Onions, mushrooms, taters - everything on the stove is done...

Steak is now out of the smoker, coals raised up & getting a sear.

Ok here is my main meal - mashed taters, grilled corn, bratwurst & a reverse seared steak with mushrooms & onions

I accidentally slid the cooling rack over into the cake icing

Mmmmm....

I will be slicing this thin tomorrow to take with me but I had to try some & ended up eating several slices & it is just as good as I remembered it from a few weeks ago lol. As to the plate - I recycled my steak/sausage/corn plate rather than getting a new one. I've eaten after myself in the past & never had any problems...

Great texture & nicely tender...

After eating all that stuff this is all the room I had left for dessert...

A small special brownie & a small piece of yellow pudding cake...

Good stuff though!
