I am sure this is a dumb question, but, anyone use or would you use the white fridge shelves in a smoker? They are steel but I don't know the heat rating on the white. I called a local appliance store, told them what I was doing and they set about 8 shelves aside. 3 were oven racks and the rest were the white fridge shelves... Thanks
 
White as in coated metal? I would not expose that to heat. A plain wire oven rack should be OK if it fits.
Yeah it's coated. I figured not, hence the dumb question comment. Thanks for confirming. Probably end up getting some kind of fumes from them if exposed to heat. I have a few uncoated ones too along with the oven racks
 
It's probably an enamel paint and you don't want what's going to come out of that under heat getting into your food. You could probably get the paint media is blasted off and then you should be in business. Maybe put them in a gas grill on high indirect heat to burn off any residual.

That may be an option. Or just buy a couple more oven racks.
