Chop a lot of the chicken farms do contract growing both for eggs and eating chickens with big chicken houses producing broilers.
We used to have two good sized chicken operations within 10 miles of us and both have closed.
That made me remember a story I was reading a few months ago about a chicken operation in Missouri supplying Tyson foods . Farmer spent $2.8 million in upgrades to support the demand from Tyson , then Tyson turned around and cut the contract . Then blocked Perdue from buying the guy out and doing business with him .
We forget what these farmers go through to keep us in food .

I picked a fine time to go KETO!!!! LOL!!!!
Yeah. Overall, it's pricy.

Up until Sept 2023, I was following the USDA food pyramid, plus baking bread, etc. Went low carb/Keto/carnivore-ish on 1 Sept 2023. Let's keep politics and inflation out of it, but here's what happened to my annual grocery spend by cutting carbs, increasing eggs to 4-5 daily consumption, eliminating processed foods/fast foods, rarely eating out, eating more leafy greens, and increasing my protein from 10-15% of my food intake, to 20-30% of my intake:
Annual grocery spend for me and my wife:
2023: $6537.41
2024: $9293.75
2025: $9728.04 (adjusted for the year after one full month of buying groceries)

Eggs and fresh veggies are the drivers of when I go grocery shopping. Number of grocery trips/month due to eating more eggs/fresh veggies.
2023: 6
2024: 9
2025: 12 (adjusted for the year, but I suspect it may get closer to 2024 as the year progresses).

Some of that spending and trip increase is due to reducing our monthly spend at eating establishments. We used to "eat out" about two to three times a week for convenience, always bringing home the leftovers for a second meal. We haven't cut it out completely, though. We still treat ourselves to Chipotle, Panda Express, or a Greek place on occasion, maybe once every two weeks. We can make keto-ish choices there.

Good thing my wife is still working!

Happy Keto!

4 to 5 eggs daily is that each of you or combined? I don't think I eat that many in a month. Strike Keto off my list of things to try.

My food bill has gone up some, but....I do not eat as often now; going OMAD most days. So the higher cost is offset by eating less.

BTW, 162# this morning.....mind blown. Eating/Burning fat is where it is at!
Congrats, Keith! Agree completely. I still do 2MAD, with an occasional OMAD. I'm getting more consistent with fasting 16-21 hrs a day. Getting more consistent ketone levels, too.

Hey, Chris. That's just me, 4-5 daily. My wife eats 3 eggs at breakfast two to three times a week. I've skipped the eggs a few times, but find I burn fat and get into ketosis when I eat eggs daily.

I like to take supplemental Ketones in a can (BetaHydroxyButyrate) when I eat carbs....which is not often anymore... it helps me feel better.....
tell me more about the BHB and where to buy it and benefits?

Pricy stuff on Amazon, from Dr. Boz, and at health food stores.

Keeps you in ketosis during times your body switches back to glucose for energy. For me, that's early morning into the early afternoon. I don't use "exogenous ketones" but understand they work really well to maintain ketosis round the clock, increasing fat loss, energy, and clear headedness.

MCT oil works too, but not as quickly as the BHB. It too, can be pricy.

My ketones kick in around 2 PM, max out about 8 PM, then start to diminish sometime during the night.

That's all I know.

Got some eggs at Costco yesterday. They were out of the white-shell ones, which are normally a bit cheaper. Only had Kirkland Organic Free Range brown eggs left $9.99 for 2 dozen. That's a buck or two more than usual. But there was a line going into the refrigerated dairy room to get them. Never seen that before.

Glad we have a friend that raises chickens and sells eggs... still at a decent price.
Maybe now they should come out with a study that says ya shouldn't eat eggs, that they're bad for you like they did years ago.

I used to sell eggs, but cut my flock down to mostly just meet our needs. If I were still selling farm eggs, it would be the same $3.00 a dozen. My costs for production haven't greatly increased as far as feed and whatnot, so I wouldn't be price gouging just because of store prices.
